This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Given the huge success of the Space Hulk re-release this year I'll bet they do a similar Warhammer Quest box in a year or two.  That I will buy.

Yeh its about time they did a new version of that game, i still use elements of the last version in my games of the old herquest boardgame(it gets abit silly when u keep the same heroes for more than a few adventures from the books).

What boggles the mind is that game developers feel that they have to completely reinvent the game with each new edition.  Why not stick with what works and iron out the rough spots?
Quote from: Black Vulmea;530561Y\'know, I\'ve learned something from this thread. Both B.T. and Koltar are idiots, but whereas B.T. possesses a malign intelligence, Koltar is just a drooling fuckwit.

So, that\'s something, I guess.

Easy answer:  ego.

Not so easy answers:
- a lot less cash coming in, in the tail end years of an edition?
- burnout?
- new competition (ie. video games, holodeck, etc ...)?

Because they hope it'll do better. The old game has probably gone has far as it could in terms of sales and a minor fiddling of the rules probably wouldn't be enough to make sales soar.

FFG were faced with two choices: basically republish the same, solid, game and make mediocre to average - but almost guaranteed - sales, or taking a risk and go for a whole new tack, a whole new approach, which could make incredible sales, but could also fall flat on its back.

We'll know soon whether they made the right choice.

Some people are willing to bet the entire house on something.  If they win, they'll be seen as geniuses.  If they lose, they'll be seen as fools.

I personally believe they missed the third option which is to emulate White Wolf.

Waaghamma Orky Roleplay

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: Ulthan and Naggaroth War of Ages

Among the Dead: Khemri and Sylvania

See there's three big separate games they could have, would have, should have done that would have brought in the big bucks.

No, the problem is that the people at FFG are arrogant sods who believe they can remake a classic and shove it down people's throats.  And yes I'm back to ranting about their butchery of the Mutant Chronicles CMG again.

It won't. We're too poor for that shit.

And watch geeks complain that they're paying a bunch of money for a game that's almost the same as the one they already have?

If you like the old edition, you can keep playing it.

Thanks for the reminder. Alas, I need the money for the reception & dinner after my PhD defense (should be very soon now), so no RoC for me now. Anyway...

That set looks pretty awesome to me. I'm a big fan of FFG and I think this is an awesome idea.

If I could get a group to pitch in, I'd totally run it. Might buy it myself if I can get a good enough discount.

Its seems pretty cheap right now, I saw someone say the got it of Amazon for $62, I think my pre-order was around £55 (which may have been a mistake, I have a suspicion it might drop a lot lower).

Captain Rufus

Didnt FFG ignore everyone who said Mutant Chronicles CMG was gonna be ass thanks to it being a mini scale everyone else actually played in?

What happened?  IT FAILED.

If they really wanted to do a boardgame/RPG hybrid why not revamp Warhammer Quest?  It only goes for sick cash on Ebay and all but I guess nobody would want that or anything...

Imma pass completely on this pretender to Warhammer RPG.

jadrax

Mutant Chronicles CMG is an interesting sales model to look at, you can see how they tried to basically make everything for prior editions unusable by changing scale, along with using what I am told is an iteration of what seems to be emerging as there in house 'decent' based Dice Pool system.
