This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I wonder if its literally tiring, or only morally draining...

Quote from: PhishStyxAside from simply being rude, what's the point of calling anyone who doesn't like D&D names like this?

There's a difference between those who privately dislike D&D, and those who publically crusade against it at every turn, up to and including lies and baseless rumours. Those are the common Swine.

Quote from: darRPGPundit can defend himself but I had to say that his term 'swine' is rather more specific than that.

I have never actually seen it defined in any way beyond him taking swipes at the group/person of the day with it.

QuoteThough I don't generally think his nasty acerbic childish shrill way of talking about the issue is helpfull (though it can be entertaining) I find myself on his side of it.

I don't really pay any attention to what D&D does beyond the fact that it's nigh impossible to find a local group interested in trying something other than D&D, and I had my fill of it many years ago.  Sadly however, the RPGA has all but taken over the local conventions and actively pushes everyone else out into the street.

So does spreading lies about anything make you a "Swine" or is it just D&D?

Quote from: NicephorusNot all of RPGPundit's rants are on entirely made up controversies.

I think over half of various pundits who had weighed in early in the year on various forums had expected a 2007 release with a Gencon 2006 announcement.

Yeah, I remember that. I was just trying to reconcile that against:
QuoteNamely, everyone who was predicting that this year would see 4e D&D.
I mean I don't read half the stuff a lot of people here seem to (well, OK I don't read anything at RPG.NET outside of the Motivational Poster thread....which has some pure gold in it ;) ). But I can't think of one serious prediction that I read of WotC renaging on giving at least 1 year notice?  Or was RPGPundit talking about predictions made a long time back?

You mean people that "publically crusade against [something] at every turn, up to and including lies and baseless rumours"?  Well if someone did then that would mean that the person agrees with my opinion that RPGPundit is the Swinest Swine that ever Swined.

So I'm guessing RPGPundit is going to go with the hypocrite option on that one and say "yes, only when it is about 'hating' D&D". ;)  EDIT: Ok, what I really think is that RPGPundit is going to go with the baldfaced bullshitter option and claim that he doesn't do 'baseless'. :rotfl:

I thought it a weak metaphor at first, but on further reflection it's actually quite good. :)

Pearls before swine -- putting things infront of people who don't appreciate their value.

Long time back.

You see, its sort of like the Jehovah Witnesses with the end of the world predictions: whenever nothing happens, they just roll it back a year.

Some of the Swine have been predicting 4e for quite some time now, almost immediately after 3.5 came out.

One of the cool things about the term swine is that swine tend to get offended and quickly jump up and identify themselves.

It's like they took all the work out of the internet!

You don't have to fall into a specific broad and derogatory category to dislike the use of broad derogatory categories.

I find the term "Swine" to be utterly infantile, reminiscent of the little kid at school who comes up with his own private terminology in a desperate effort to reclaim some measure of dignity against the big bullies.

It's fucking laughable.
