This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Any word yet on how third party publishers will be treated under 5e?

Any rumors?
This forum is great in that the moderators aren\'t jack-booted fascists.

Unfortunately, this forum is filled with total a-holes, including a bunch of rape culture enabling dillholes.

So embracing the \'no X is better than bad X,\' I\'m out of here. If you need to find me I\'m sure you can.

Nope.  Just that Mearls said sometime in 2015, after people have had time to soak up the DMG
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Necromancer Games has already announced that they will be supporting 5e.

Given that their writers will include Ed Greenwood and Steve Winter, I assume that WotC is cool with this (or that Necro is very confident about their legal standing).

It seems pretty brazen of Necromancer but I guess they feel like they're covered. I don't understand or even care for all the lawspeak but imo more content = better product, even if I have to sort through the chaff myself.

I dunno. The whole d20 boom sort of showed otherwise. Companies learned that quantity, not quality mattered. That it was better to put out several books a month than to put out a few quality books a year.

Mongoose, AEG, and FFG pretty much just flooded the market. The crap pushed out all the good stuff (at least IMHO).

And IMHO at least, it looks like Necromancer/Frog God is trying to do that. They, at least Sword & Sorcery (which they were related to) rushed out a really crappy monster book before WOTC launched the official monster manual. They really made out like bandits, but it was a seriously crappy book.

I loved the diversity of 3e OGL. Yeah, a lot of it was crap, but a lot of WotC's stuff is crap, too.

But I was far more likely to have a 'social combat system' in 3e than 4e.

90% of everything is crap. Increase the amount of stuff and you increase the amount of crap, but you are also likely to increase the amount of good stuff (assuming it's coming from disparate sources).

So, yeah, lots of crap from Mongoose and White Wolf. But I'll readily accept the easy task of ignoring that stuff in exchange for all the amazing stuff that was produced. It's certainly preferable to being completely dependent on the mediocrity that WotC was generally churning out during that period.
