This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My Gamescience dice are shit.

QuoteNo, in the interest of providing consumer feedback on a product that may not be as advertised, in a forum where many people inclined to purchase such a thing will see it.

Fair enough, and I agree on not wasting time & nerves over 12 bucks, but you still acted, and act like a condescending douchebag when given some friendly advice.

QuoteIn shopping around for a replacement set, I did consider metal dice, especially now that Crystal Caste makes some in full 16mm size, but IME metal dice are a bit heavy and as such don't really roll well.

I've been looking at the stuff out of Q-Workshop. They make some wicked looking dice, and the prices seem pretty fair for such detailed work. Thinking either the Dwarven set in gray and black, or the Atomic set in the fluorescent that glows in the dark.

Q-Workshop does some great stuff indeed - my favourite is the Cthulhu Glow In The Dark set.

Sorry to hear that your dice suck.

(I've had good experiences with Gamescience dice, but mine are a mix of very old ones, and some newer ones that I bought directly from Lou at a convention a few years ago.  I have no experience with the new owners of the brand and their product.)

QuoteI like to get feedback from actual users of any product before I purchase, and forums are generally a good place for that. This site does lean pretty grog though, and a lot of grognards have old memories of Gamescience and old Lou, so while I got a few negative comments, mostly it was all praise.

So next chance I got, I finally bought a set that looked nice in the shop, and they let me down. Incidentally, my friend at the time bought a set as well, one of the mixed color set, and I seem to recall him being a but I satisfied as well, but I can't recall details.

I just thought I would share that experience, both to vent and to offer useful feedback, as I said above.

Grogtards are fanboys too, that is why I TEND to ignore the advice they give.

I ordered some Gamescience dice from Gamestation, and some came a little off-color, I also got one that obviously should have been a discard.  I got replacements without any problem, they didn't even want the wrong color dice back even though they were fine physically.

I have noticed that the newer ones are more imperfect then the old ones, in some cases, but Gamestation has replaced everything with no muss no fuss.

I bought one of the big sets with the silly dice about a year ago, and found  that my d24 had a cavity on one of the corners.  I got my receipt handy, and called their office.  They didn't request any sales information, rejected my offer to send the faulty one back to them, and sent me a replacement immediately, no questions asked (besides my name and address).

The changing ownership could be an issue, but in my experience the brand supplies customer service to match their boasting and high prices.

Regardless of quality issues, even my jankiest gamscience die stops of a fucking dime when I throw them; practically instant random integer generation.
Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

Something I've wondered. If one of the big selling points for Gamescience dice is that they stop rolling quickly and if that is what you are looking for in randomizers, then why not just buy an electronic dice roller?
"Meh."

One of Planet Algol's regulars was using an app to roll dice, and I have one myself just in case, but that just doesn't feel the same as actual dice to me.

Blergh. Dice are dice - it's one of the odd pet peeves of mine, that I just hate dice rollers.

Except when someone will finally perhaps make an Artillery & Scatter die for Warhammer battle systems.

You lose something when you play an RPG without dice.

My experience with smartphone dice rollers is that by the time the user has unlocked their phone and hit the button they could have already throw a die several times over.

Or, if one desires physical dice and doesn't mind spending the cash, metal dice stop on a dime IME. The extra weight tends to make them roll little.

I do understand the complaint though, if only for d20s. Too round a d20 tends to roll like a ball. I've seen some clear a table if not stopped first.

I'm terrified of metal dice; I just imagine them being hellishly loud while putting dents in the tabletop.
