While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. I know they got fucked when WotC dumped 4E, but where did they go? There was enough zealotry there that you'd think that some of them would remain shining the light of 4E in the darkness of Pathfinder and 5E. So, where are they now?

5anatics?  Maybe Abyssal Maw became one.

Most of the others I think just lurk in the depths of SA and Purple, lamenting their fallen state and cursing the darkness...think Gollum but without personality.

The few sane ones probably still play 4e or 13th Age maybe.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Still here! Boo! Muhahaha!

[though the real 4vengers probably consider me a heretic.]

I played some 4e recently - fun as always, and sparked me dabbling again with my 4e retrowhatever. I know two local groups playing 13th Age instead of 4e or 5e. They are definitely in the 13th Age = 4e Pathfinder camp, and quite happy with the output of 13th Age. I am hoping one of the GMs runs 13th Age Glorantha.

One of the groups is running a home campaign based on 2e's Living City Ravensbluff campaign. The other is doing the adventure paths from 13th Age.

If / when I finish the rough draft on the retrowhatever, I will definitely spam post spank wank all about it here.

Chainsaw

I enjoyed 4E as a fantasy skirmish miniatures game, but not as D&D. I'd play it again occasionally if someone had a really nice set up, like Otherworld Miniatures monsters and Dwarven Forge set pieces, and we treated it like a war game.

I generally felt the same, the problem being, there are so many other, way better skirmish miniatures games. Heck even Otherworld Miniatures have their own rather nice one.

Shipyard Locked

I was enthusiastic about 4e, but I don't recall ever fighting with anyone about it so I would guess I'm not technically a 4venger.

I still peruse my 4e books for inspiration and crunchy tactics when prepping my 5e games, but I can't imagine I or anyone else in my circles would ever run it again. Too slow, too many moving parts to remember, too little roleplaying and exploring between four-hour set piece fights.

The Butcher

Who cares?

The 4e people have 13th Age, the 3e folks have Pathfinder, the old school crowd has the most amazing fan-driven scene catering to just about all tastes, right now and with 5e we all get to sit at Father D&D table on Sundays and enjoy a (lukewarm, low-sodium, low-fat, gluten- and lactose-free) meal like one big dysfunctional family all watched over by Wizards of loving grace.

Fucking let it go, people.

Lets see. They freaked out when 5e came along and some attacked it relentlessly. And a few of those still do.
They succeeded in disgusting both the 5e AND 4e designers with how they were acting.
After that they gradually quieted down aside from a few die-hards who will perform hit-and-run tactics.

Its still got some traction outside RPGing with the board gaming/wargaming community as a cheaper, more stable and adaptable minis skirmish game. And a few board gamers and Pundits "swine" seem even now a little obsessed with 4e's "Balance".

Christopher Brady

The same thing that happened when the OD&D, 1e and 2e guys.  They did one of two things, they converted to the 'new hotness', or they're still with their game of choice and not bothering anyone, because they're playing.

Whenever I see 4vengers I think "Avengers hanging out with the Fantastic 4" -- mostly so I don't have to think too much about anything else.

What's their skirmish game?

What does it do well?

I love skirmish games (Mordheim, Necromunda, etc) so I'm always looking for the next generation.

Yeah, if you want to play something LIKE 4E, 13th Age isn't bad.

Much like their miniatures, the game has a decidedly "old school"feel. Its an adaption of the system used by Crooked Dice in their 60s Pulp TV show games, but throws in some Mordheimisms, like building one's faction by buying Legends, Apprentices, Companions, and Minions with Gold Pieces. Where its somewhat unique is that your minions can be made up of any number of Dungeon Monsters. So, you could have a Wizard leading an band of Beholders and Lizardmen, or an Elven prince with a coterie of goblinoids. Each round the Initiative roll gives each player a certain number of action tokens that are assigned to characters under their control as they see fit. Each token allows a model to make two moves (move twice, move and attack, attack then skedadle, etc), an certain other events in the game can trigger free actions. There's also some decent rules for creating dungeon scenarios if PvP isnt your thing.

All in all a pretty cool game (and the cover art is liquid awesome). Not something I see myself playing regularly but its a fun diversion.

That actually does look pretty cool.
