SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

TBP does it again

I had promised myself I wouldn't post about rpg.net after my recent permaban there, as doing so would imply that I care, when I really don't. However, the following thread, describing their new moderation/behavior policy for the D&D/d20 forum is just too amusing to ignore:

http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?681901-New-Rules-For-Discussion-In-The-d20-Subforum-READ-THIS
"Other RPGs tend to focus on other aspects of roleplaying, while D&D traditionally focuses on racially-based home invasion, murder and theft."--The Little Raven, RPGnet

"We\'re not more violent than other countries. We just have more worthless people who need to die."

Spoil sport.

What's actually funny about the whole thing is that it was kinda sorta believable, as evidenced by the thread where people thought it might be real.

You could probably make some sort of comment about moderation over there if you wanted to :)

very true.  After all, it seems paraphrasing someone is now considered a personal attack.  Every day it reaches a new level of comedy.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Would've been better if it was actually funny.  The confusion was mildly amusing, but more a commentary on how fucked up that place has become than anything.
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

This thread will be the funniest result of their April Fool for them. A banker, you might say.

I doubt they were banking on quite the backlash they got over there, however, but hey, he who laughs last laughs longest.

Ettin thinks pedophilia is funny so who fuckin' knows if that's an AFJ or not.

Speaking of, what's the over/under on the number of days before Zak S gets rule 10'd?

It seems that he and Ettin have quite the dislike for each other, and one can't help but notice that nearly all of Zak's infractions have been from Ettin for things like, "I don't like how you phrased that."  I.e., nothing he actually did wrong.  And I think Kai pretty much just told him he was close to getting permabanned due to infraction history.

Convenient how that works.

They seem to have removed the trouble tickets forum entirely because of the joke, at least to non-members.

It is. They originally posted it in TT and then everyone wasn't sure if it was a joke or not until Cessna came out and said, yes, it was a joke.

That should REALLY tell them something both about their own moderation and their userbase.

Alas I really doubt it will.

paying members?  an old alt account of mine can't see TT or even the rules post.  only thing i bother reading over there for the most part is TT and the infraction history page.

is interesting that i had IL'ed ettin and he's still invisible, even with his mod status.

Yeah, that one's pretty ugly.

Zak went to SA when his name and his work was specifically mentioned in [strike]helldump[/strike]grognards.txt, and got banned for basically asking (time and again) "What do you have against me?" or gainsaying whatever got thrown at him.

Ettin hails from SA and while not a mod there, is of that same hivemind.  So him jumping at every possible opportunity to [strike]put his weenie on display[/strike]moderate Zak is pretty much par for the course.  He's basically extending Something Awful's forum policy to rpg.net on SA's behalf; I'd expect to see more of that for as long as grognards.txt stays gone.

I don't see it going away even if grognard.txt came back.  Remember, Ettin had a quote from a poster here directed at SA in his sig at TBP, and I copped my first ban for saying, "Looks at sig" when he was sanctioning people for cross forum drama while sporting that sig.

To be honest, I believed this was real until I got to the sillier bits later in the announcement. It just seemed to be a logical extension of their recent moderation policies.
