SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

TBP does it again

It's like an onion of not caring.

wut?

The once interesting forum now known as 'The Big Purple' has been a waste of time for at least 5 years now. (or more)

You have to admit that following an April Fool about stupid changes to the rules with actual stupid changes to the rules is, in fact, rather funny.

I gotta say though, after reading the whole thing, that I feel bad for Cessna. He's among the funner posters on that site and didn't deserve going through that. Especially the various stuff from Zeea (allthough that is wildly ironic, what with the foax proposed d20 forum rules being very similar to the sexism rules. Allthough that might in fact be the reason. What do I know.).

I thought the actual April Fool by Ettin was excellent but I'm not surprised it fell flat for some posters.

The irony there is that it's those sort of posters the moderation has been constructed around for some time, so it's difficult to have any sympathy.

I think that the first post about the new rules might well have gone down better if it had come from Cessna rather than Ettin. Cessna's much more the elder statesman of the mod squad and so could have played it that bit straighter.

Really though 90% of the butt hurt seemed to come from the terrible way they dealt with responses to it. If they'd just made it a locked post and/or not gone round dropping "warnings" on people calling April Fool I think everyone could have had more fun with it.

Another site I used to visit was prone to making itself completely unusable for a day on April Fools with random changes, and that used to attract a lot less complaints than TBP's attempt.

Quote from: thecasualoblivion;641986I had promised myself I wouldn't post about rpg.net after my recent permaban there, as doing so would imply that I care, when I really don't. However, the following thread, describing their new moderation/behavior policy for the D&D/d20 forum is just too amusing to ignore:

It's only funny because it's hard to tell they're joking.

I found it quite funny myself really.

I guess some of the people who didn't get it simply lack a sense of humour.

Indeedx3. I have no sympathy for said posters myself, for the reason you described.

Allthough it's a big part of what makes the thread funny yes.

Yeah. Agreed. Cessna has style and wit and is much the most fun, especially at deadpan.

If only there was a record of these crazy exploits (that people here elude to) that was easy to find without being sucked into the fray.
I play these games to be entertained... I don't want to see games about rape, sodomy and drug addiction... I can get all that at home.

Probably. Ettin has a shtick (I'm the funny mod, I want to be like FVB, I'm not trolling the userbase, honest) that should have made it pretty obvious it was a gag though.

Well, for me it just read like "Ettin being Ettin" rather than an April Fool. YMMV and all that :)

Sacrosanct

They should just make him an admin and get it over with.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

It would certainly send more people this way.
