What about Tanuki with their ginormous ballsacks?

Of course, all of you already know how problematic Norse mythology is, will all the white people and violence and such!

I don't like Greek Mythology a lot, but that's because it's like a never-ending soap opera/reality tv show where so many mortals and demi-gods get awful treatment for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Didn't the Mario games already sanitize the Tanuki?

Nobody wants to see those balls...

Pom Poko is the movie that proves you wrong.

Quote from: 1stLevelWizard on April 21, 2024, 09:52:25 AMPlanet 28 is pretty good, albeit a bit basic.

How is One Page Rules? That seems to be the thing everybody mentions whenever breaking away from 40k is brought up.

As for BattleTech, that was a great game to get into. Got the starter set, rulebook, and snagged a bunch of mechs off Ebay and Etsy. It quickly became one of my favorite games.

1.  One Page Rules are FREE.  Just download and play.

2.  One Page Rules are simple.   You can remember the rules pretty easy.

3.  The game is model agnostic.  Use what you have, even paper standup drawn by hand or plastic army men.

4.  The game is very much made with 3D printers in mind.  Go for it.  I'm designing my own Robot Legion models.

5.  The game turn sequence alternates back and forth between both players.  You won't need to sit and watch your opponent move and fight with their entire army for an entire turn.

Quote from: Insane Nerd Ramblings on April 22, 2024, 08:39:07 PMhe only creatures that probably were inherently evil were Ungoliant and her spawn (Shelob, etc).

Even Ungoliant's a bit ambiguous as it's unclear if she is even apart of Arda and Eru's design or if she is some sort of byproduct of Malkor's corruption of reality.

Quote from: GhostNinja on Today at 12:22:21 PMI used to love Battletech.  Sadly, I think once Catalyst got ahold of it they made it more complicated and more out of reach for many players.

I have been picking at designing my own Battletech style game, without the stupid heat issues and fixing some of the stupidity found in the rules which has kind of pushed me away from Battletech.

I got the Catalyst Battletech box, and it seems to be the same as the FASA heat system. What exactly did they do to make it more complicated?
They didn't do anything to the heat system. However, they have bulked upt the rules to cover a lot of different things. If you play with the BattleMech Manual, you have a slimmed down but fairly robust (more so than Beginner Set) set of rules for 'Mechs. If you play with Total Warfare, you can add in almost every other type of unit for a moderate increase in complexity. Add in Tactical Operations, and you can complicate the hell out of things real quick with all sorts of special and/or optional rules, and there are even a few things beyond that if you buy into all the books.

Then O and AD&D were aimed at children too by that logic.

This is a great map.  I am running an adventure in my Old School Essentials game using this map.   Characters entered on the second floor via the roof (wanted to avoid the gorgons on either side of the front door) and found a room with 6 boxes with perfectly preserved bodies.  Should be interesting.

Quote from: ForgottenF on Today at 08:10:55 AMAlso is that where that came from? Calling elves "knife-ears" has become a bit of a meme at this point, to the point where it even made it into that shitty Rings of Power show. I was wondering who came up with it first.

I think its older than Dragon Age. But not sure when. I suspect it originated in Warhammer.
