This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What Books Would You Take?

So, by some bizarre universal decree (yeah, this is pretty much just a silly beer-drinkin' question), you are told that you will only be allowed 1 RPG book (or boxed set) for each of the following ctegories.  You will not be allowed to acquire new product.  You can only game using those books for the rest of our life.  Which RPGs would you choose?

Here are the categories:

Fantasy:
Sci-Fi/Space:
Conspiracy/Horror:
Superheroes:
Wild Card: (Can be any RPG product for any category)

What's your combo gonna be?

I've posted variants of this before on other gaming sites, but it's always cool to see the responses...

Sci-Fi/Space: Ringworld
Conspiracy/Horror: Cthulhu (natch)
Superheroes: Champions
Wild Card: GURPS 2nd Compendium (which trumps everything on the above list, actually, except 3.5)

Fine - then the boxed set of GURPS 4th edition with the 4th edition GM Screen pack trucked inside and a copy of the GCA.

Superheroes:  Marvel Advanced - my favorite superhero game
Wild Card:  Burning Empires - damn BW for having 3 books

Conspiracy/Horror: All Flesh Must Be Eaten

Superheros: Heros Unlimited

Wild Card: GURPS 3rd edition (I have a bunch of 3rd edition stuff and cant justify buying 4th edition stuff to replace it) or After the Bomb

I assume we get a large number of suitable dice, too, right?

Fantasy: Warhammer FRP 1st Edition
Sci-Fi/Space: The MegaTraveller Boxed Set
Conspiracy/Horror: ? (see below)
Superheroes: Champions 4th Edition Deluxe Big Blue Book (or the 5th Edition Revised, if necessary)
Wild Card: Fudge 10th Anniversary Edition

I don't play much pure Conspiracy/Horror and would use the slot for something like Hudson City for Champions 5th Ed (or Justice, Not Law, the Hudson City book for Champions 4th Ed) if they are close enough.  Otherwise I'd probably consider Warhammer FRP 1st Edition my Conspiracy/Horror slot and choose Dungeons & Dragons Core Rulebook Gift Set (the 3 core D&D 3.5 books in a boxed set) as my Fantasy slot.  If Warhammer FRP 1st Edition also doesn't count as Conspiracy/Horror then I'd just put GDW's Dark Conspiracy in the Conspiracy/Horror slot.

ADDED: I probably would have picked The [Classic] Traveller Book if I could have slipped a few supplements (at least Citizens of the Imperium) in with it.  The MegaTraveller boxed set is the most comprehensive Traveller package that I could think of.

You can get all 3 D&D 3.5 books in the "Dungeons & Dragons Core Rulebook Gift Set", which has all three core books in a slipcase "box" (I'd count that as a "boxed set" ;) ).

Role-players, of all people, shouldn't have trouble min-maxing their answers. :)

Rezendevous

Fantasy: D&D Rules Cyclopedia

Sci-Fi/Space: tough, but I would go with Star Wars d6 (this might change once the new version of Star Wars comes out, though)

Conspiracy/Horror: Nemesis

Superheroes: I'm not much of a superheroes gamer, but I think I would go with Godlike for this one, since it would let me do WW2 gaming too.

Wild Card: BESM 2nd, since it would let me do pretty much anything I want.

Fantasy: D&D Rules Cyclopedia

Sci-Fi/Space: Rifts

Conspiracy/Horror: Call of Cthulhu

Superheroes: Advanced Marvel Super Heroes

Wild Card: Top Secret/SI
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

Erstwhile

Man...this is a tough'un.  However...

Fantasy:  On balance, probably HarnMaster.

Sci-Fi/Space:  Fading Suns (though Star Frontiers is a close second)

Conspiracy/Horror:  Cinematic Unisystem (Angel, Buffy, or Army of Darkness), if only because it's easier to dial CineUni down to "ordinary folk" level than it is to dial up Call of Cthulhu.

Superheroes:  Mutants & Masterminds.  I love Silver Age Sentinels but I like M&M's rules better.

Wild Card: In Nomine.
