This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Roleplaying is fundamentally about ...

... making choices.

At least that's how I would complete the sentence.  And it's why I hate railroads and why I don't understand "D&D Encounters" (not in game encounters, but those promotional events where they combine a railroad with hack-and-slash game play).

How would you complete the sentence?

I guess that's where I differ from most people: I don't think speaking with a funny voice, acting, or even adopting the first person are necessary components of roleplaying.  In fact I think they sometimes get in the way of roleplaying, since a character is best developed through deeds, not words.

I didn't mean to insinuate that someone (actually Benoist) was wrong, just that it's not how I roll (play).

Edit: Writing this makes me feel like I'm on rpg.net

Edit2: Screw that, I'd rather be unpleasant but honest: Vreeg that's an extremely passive-aggressive way to respond to disagreement.

Don't worry, the dirty feeling goes away after a while. Calling people "cunts" a few times helps tremendously. :D

Player side? Kill things, take their stuff and play my character. Also, OOC humour.
GM side? Put the players through the wringer, I've recently come to realize.
The main problem with government is the difficulty of pressing charges against its directors.

Given a choice of two out of three M&Ms, the human brain subconsciously tries to justify the two M&Ms chosen as being superior to the M&M not chosen.

I really meant it.  It's not all happy crap.  I have a strong belief in the importance of the hobby as a whole, and that a level of inclusiveness is needed for the intelligent discourse.
And I KNOW that I am a bit of an outlier, and am happy with it.

To make you feel more at home, you're using a pretty fucked up definition of P/A, since there was no retaliatory subtext, which is a necessary ingredient.  Better?
