SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Well, we are a ways out.  I think everyone wants them to get it right, and they're taking their time about it.  They do have an almost impossible goal in front of them, a burnt bridge they're trying to rebuild (which make it all the harder since they burned it).

They do seem to be flailing around however.  This comes from I think trying to engage gamers who played versions of D&D they've never even seen, unless they got the employee discount on the reprints.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Quote from: Kiero;572322I was merely expressing my amusement. Mostly at the way none of my actual arguments were engaged, merely a lame attempt at an ad hominem attack in lieu of anything like...well anything. It was pretty content-free.

I was just welcoming you to a place that you can actually speak up without being banned.  You can take it I know you can.
Don\'t mess with cats we kill wizards in one blow.;)

Quote from: Rum Cove;572691It does seem like a collection of the worst stereotypes from each edition.

CK is right it's still far out, and seriously it's my first time in a playtest and I know I'm an outlier as far as the current fanbase is calculated. But the release of the back catalog is huge and the very best move they could ever do. It doesn't help me but it makes huge points regardless.

Offtopic: Sacrosanct's Kristy Mcnichol avatar is scary.

Kristy Mcnichol was a while ago, when she was paired with Tatum Oneal.  Now it's Phoebe Cates
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Quote from: jgants;572664You know what - seriously - I'll take a narrative-focused Jenga tower based rules set over this. At least it knows what it wants to do.

Hey put it in feedback! Enough people want the Jenga tower and its in :)

Quote from: jgants;572664The guiding principal of D&D Next's rules appears to be "try not to piss anyone off too badly by smashing everything together". That's just not a good strategy.

I agree that this would not be a good strategy, and I'm fairly confident that this will be recognized and something done about it.

Matt Colville has a D&D5 thread going at TPB.  It's worth reading to see what's new in the playtest, and some actual play responses.
