WotC is re-releasing Gamma World as a stand-alone boxed set RPG based on 4e.

That looks very interesting. Looks like they have three products planned from October to September.

Interesting! I wonder if it will be complete or just the first 5 levels like the new red box is gonna be?

The 160-page count makes me think it'll be a complete game.

I hope so. This is the first thing that has got me excited about 4e. I mean I bought the core three books. But it just didnt click with me. But this for some reason sounds sweet. Perhaps because of the massive fuck up that was the last Gamma World.

I agree. I like the 4e mechanics, I just don't like them for D&D. I think they will be terrific for Gamma World. And yes, S&S Gamma World was a massive fuck-up.

MMO boardgame Gamma World just turns my stomach somehow.

You know they'll fuck up the chargen, random chargen just isn't in the 4e vocabulary, and all the mutations are going to be attack powers that do "1[w]+x; shift R1" and stupid shit like that.

Gamma World is just too damn old school for Wizards and Co. to understand.

huh that's really unexpected.  It's almost like WotC was a gaming company or something.

I may have to give this a looky if i continue to hear good things about it over the next few months.

As a Gamma World fan, I, will at least take a look. Something about the power cards worry me--because of past incarnations flexibility of mutations. I suspect this will be unlikely as adept as 4E or earlier versions at doing GW right.

4E Gamma World is advertised as a "Dungeons & Dragons Genre Book" to go along with the upcoming Rules Compendium.

Popular speculation is that the Rules Compendium, at a 350 page count, will be a genre neutral compilation of the core rules system, without races, classes or powers...possibly WOTC's stab at a 4E generic system.

While I enjoy the 4E core mechanics, and I think that the powers system works for D&D style saturday morning cartoon action games, I can't help but feel it would be detrimental to a generic system.

Well, shit. Someone at WoTC has been listening to me.

I have to feel at least a little bit optimistic about this; though there's every chance it could end up being fucked up, at least all these boxed set announcements are, without any further information, appearing to be a step in the right direction.

Zachary The First

I'm no fan of 4e mechanics, but it has to be better than the 6th Edition was.  It tried to be too serious and level-headed about a game full of mutant animals, crazy-ass weapons, and a wild and woolly post-nuclear playground.  If they stick to the tones of earlier editions, I think I would be more kindly disposed towards it.
