This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

QuoteAt the core of the new D&D Organized Play experience is the D&D Adventurers League. Essentially, we’ve given the system a name, because we wanted to emphasize the connected nature of our public play programs. For the first time, we’ll have our entire public play taking place in the same ongoing D&D campaign.

As a player, you’ll create a character for the D&D Adventurers League. You’ll be using the same rules to play at a convention, a store, or any sort of public event. There will be a D&D Adventurers League Player’s Guide available to let you know how it all comes together. Through the different programs, the D&D Adventurers League will be inviting to casual D&D players, experienced D&D players, and players looking for ways in which their characters can impact the campaign world. We want players to find the play that best fits them, and enjoy playing for years to come.

Is that the mystery link?

Is that revolving around participation in Organized Play?

"We're rebooting the concept of the RPGA Living campaign and giving it a new name."

Kinda sounds like a way for your character or group your involved in to leave a mark in the game worldwide.

Reposting from the other thread: If that is the mystery link, my instant question would be: why isn't the Adventurer's League PH in the boxed set AS WELL in the first place? If the effort turns around Organized Play, then why not include the PH in the boxed set itself in order to advertise the Organized Play angle in the boxed set itself AND have a complete starting package as well, thus killing two birds with one stone?

Stop nicking Mistwell's thunder! ;)

Yeah, i don't fully understand whether the booklet is just to explain the new live aspect of the game or it doubles up as chargen.

Don't kid yourself.

Nothing any Player Character does in any Organized Play setting will leave a mark on that setting. That power is reserved for the corporation that owns the IP.
"Meh."

@mikemearls will the D&D Adventurers League Player's Guide be free or something we'll have to pay for?

Well, that likely answers the question floating around that other triumvirate of threads...

Asking questions about the fictional game space and receiving feedback that directly guides the flow of play IS the game. - Exploderwizard

Hmmm, picture might be coming a little more clear now.  I could see a big cardboard display, a group of PC's fighting some sort of nasty monster.  THere's a header that says "Join the adventure today!" or something.  In that display is a bunch of free ALPG's.  You can then take one home and make a character or something- don't even need to buy that starter box.

That box is for the DM just like they keep saying. Also it really is a good way to tie in to your public play programs. It's more like an adventure path then a beginner box. The word STARTER explains it. Combine all of this with some online/app tools and BAM!

Is there still a D&D comic? Because this book should be bagged with it that month, if so. And downloadable from the website (Not their dtrpg front-end, just straight from the D&D site). And available as an app.

I don't think the Players Guide is actually a rulebook of D&D, but more of a rulebook on how to run these events.

Speaking of which, I think I need to speak to my FLGS owner, and see if he'll allow me to run 5e using  my own adventure rather than the approved Adventurers League one, because I run my games in a more old school style, which I'm guessing would not conform to the AL's standards.  I'd like to show people that wander in that you don't have to play D&D like they say, and that you can play it any style you want.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

A massively multiplayer offline role playing game?  That's ambitious.
With no fanfare, the stone giant turned to his son and said, "That\'s why you never build a castle in a swamp."
