Is there going to be a demo version of what seems to be essentially WoW 2? I'd love to give it a go but I have a hunch my graphics chip won't run it. It can just about handle LotrO (except for the waving trees of the Old Forest) and it runs WoW just fine, but I don't know if it will handle Cataclysm and I'm certainly not interested in finding out the hard way.

since its a rolling change to huge parts of the main game world i think the standard wow demo should suffice though you may need to wait awhile as im not sure the full cataclysm event has actually kicked in yet(the pack isnt out till tuesday from what i can tell).

The world and graphics change is already live, so you can just go with the standard 10 day trial and see from the get go whether your machine can handle it.

I used a 10 day trial already on my account, can you use or get another one?

Make a new account, there is no restriction to how many you can have.

That would mean pissing about with new credit cards if i choose to play and I can't be bothered doing that. too much hassle.

cant you buy pre paid timecards for wow? why use a credit card when they save alot of time?

You make a new account, check out if the graphics work and if they do, you renew your old account.

I've whipped out my old disks to install it (discs include BC, i never played WotLK), but it looks like i'm not the only one as it's going to apparently take about 20 hours to install a 5gb patch!

Correction 80 hours!

That's some serious server stress.

I did mine yesterday. Took around 3 hours, because you will also have 4 GB or so of additional patches once you click play following your initial installation.

patch 3.3.x to 4.0.0 (assuming nothing beyond) is 5gb and 75 hours right now. Obviously the eu servers are taking a spanking.

Yeah, that patch dropped weeks ago to try to mitigate the exact scenario you're suffering through now. It took my wife about a day and a half to download it even without the servers being crammed.

Just running around with my existing characters checking out all the changes. The human starting lands are really cool now, but completely empty (except for my rogue checking it out). I really like Dun Morogh now, with all the new gnome stuff.

I might check out the Horde side with my Blood Elf. I'm guessing most people are crammed into the Worgen and Goblin starting areas.

I think i'd prefer to download the patch directly; the updater seems to work like a torrent file and the download speed is around 30k a second which is dire. I don't really see, given that it's working like a torrent, it should be that slow.

Anyone know how to speed up this downloader it's absurdly slow - 30ks for a 5gb file? Are you on crack? I'm capable of ten times this speed routinely on uTorrent, so why do Blizzard want me to take 10 times as long to download their game? All the ports are open, everythign seems to be set properly, it's just slower than an asthmatic snail going uphill in a snowstorm with a heavy bag of briezeblocks on a sunday.
