It might be your provider. I was downloading at 1MB/s using Comcast.

I had the same problem awhile back when I did a full reinstall without discs - I had to change the port forwarding on my PC (but first I had to learn to do that) and it made all the difference. I had Cataclysm installed and was playing in about an hour yesterday.

Pretty good stuff - I went therough the entire Worgen starting zone. Like it. Started on the Goblin one - it is suitably wacky.

The goblin zone is awesome. The worgen zone is also pretty cool.

Also, I had a little lag yesterday around 530 PM EST, but nothing later on.

i've forwarded all necessary ports, but this downloader is horrendously slow.

The downloader works perfectly fine for me. Should be something on your end. Perhaps try the blizzard helping site.

Who's your net provider? coz some UK providers are dicks about downloading big files and like to restrict the flow till stupid o'clock in the night(talktalk for instance likes to take the piss and restrict it till around 2:30-3am most days).

I know, but the problem is the downloader. Lots of other people have slow speeds with this and, simultanteously, i can download other files at normal speeds. It's the downloader, and I must assume that the sources for the patch are just crap/non existent. Very occasionally it will accelarate but it's routinely hovering around 4k/s right now. THis is the dumbest patching process i've ever seen, I'm genuinely gobsmacked that B have chosen this for WoW, just gobsmacked. i'm into day 3 of this file and i've got about another 800mb to go. At top speed i can normally d/l a gig in an hour, which is fine. This is just a joke - and there are a couple more patches to come!

I didn't see the point ringing them up (not cheap), especially as i'm hogging the phoneline downloading!

Can't post on the forums for tech support without a paid up account.

Finally! It is done!

Just another 6gb of data to go!

Really smart game design guys. Well done.

This is hilarious, now i've reached the playable stage where it lets you play somewhat while still patching (or some shit like that) and the login server is down. Presumably Deathwing destroyed all the servers as well as azeroth, and my patience.

I bet after all this it doesn't work and my graphics aren't up to the job.

Oh well.

I love your positive outlook on life and how minor setbacks don't even rattle you.

Finally, it has installed. Patching complete.

It looks exactly the same.

The differences seem to be the addition of new water textures, shafts of sunlight and probably a few tighter textures here and there, all of which my
Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL onboard graphic abacus cannot run.

I'm not really surprised. But i thought they had more significanlty overhauled the graphics, not just added a couple of features.

Oddly enough I can run all those features in LotrO but not in WoW with it's much more dated base graphics. So sad.

Would have been nice to see it look better, but i can't really justify paying for it as is. It's not what i want.

Try playing the game.  Questing, overall, is much improved- but also is very much a Theme Park where zones are modeled on Zone-as-Story.  The starting zones for Worgen and Goblins are excellent, though integration into the larger world is a bit lacking.  (Also, no serious change to the Draenei and Blood Elf zones- including the ability to fly.)  I haven't had as much fun questing as I did taking my main from 80 to 85.  It's really good now.

Ghost Whistler

I tried it, but in order to run Cataclysm you need all the expansions and I don't have Lich King. Not only that, but the game just looks ass on my machine because I can't run any of the new textures/effects so I won't be pursuing a subscription. I certainly can't afford to buy a new machine just to play WoW, even though if I could run it I would.
