This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Kickstarter is up: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2113976860/heroquest-25th-anniversary

Given the cost, the poor translation/editing on the KS page, and the dubious legal status, I am going to wary of this one.

Omega

Take a look at the convoluted system they have for calculating shipping... ow...

Still. Its chugging along well so far.

What I do not like is that the KS mentions none of the changes to the game system or anything about the actual gameplay.

Ladybird

I still kinda want to go for this. I never had Heroquest when I was young (Instead I had to make my own version) and what they have there, looks like it's worth the money.

The rest of their figures are really good, so yeah, this is probably going to get some of my money.
one two FUCK YOU

This reads like Dr Seuss :)

QuoteWhen I talked about it with a friend, he made me understand that the petition was really open, not focused to a single company. It was a petition made mainly to two big fishes, but open to any third party.

I just hope that the $ don't go to fund a defence against Hasbro and GW. The legality has yet to be tested and I can't see GameZone faring well regardless of the merits.

Quote"Hi there,

This is a message from Kickstarter Support. We're writing to inform you that a project you backed, Heroquest 25th Anniversary, is the subject of an intellectual property dispute.

The project has been removed from public view until the dispute is resolved, which can take up to 30 days. The project's funding and the countdown to its deadline have been stopped. If the project becomes available again, the countdown will continue and the new deadline will extend past the original deadline for as much time as the project was unavailable. You can find out more by reading our Copyright Policy and our Trademark Policy.

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation,
Kickstarter"

As I kinda expected would happen.
Running: Call of Cthulhu
Playing: Mainly boardgames
Quote from: Cranewings;410955Cocain is more popular than rp so there is bound to be some crossover.

That was somewhat predictable.

elfandghost

It wouldn't be so bad if GW actually put out their own version after scuppering this beautiful attempt, but as said game predates the year 2000 that would mean acknowledging that there are adults out there who actually like playing games too; can't have that.
Mythras * Call of Cthulhu * OD&Dn

It isn't Games Workshop behind the cease and desist, apparently it's Moon Design Publications, who publish the HeroQuest RPG by Robin Laws
Buy Other Worlds, it\'s a multi-genre storygame excuse for an RPG designed to wreck the hobby from within

Wow. Really? That seems like a mega-douche thing to do then.

QuoteOfficial statement

Please bear with us. Gamezone and Moon Design are in a meeting negotiating a settlement for both parts at this time.

Moon Design believes that their interests in the HEROQUEST brand within the USA will be infringed upon. Although we are not distributing or selling our product in US territory. As a precaution Moon Design presented a C/D on the 27th of Nov. Our talks are coming to a point where the negotiation will benefit all those involved, which finally would let us offer our product in stores in the USA sometime next year.

The Moon Design C/D was suspended, but on the table, as another element in the negotiation. Here at Gamezone it is our hopeful understand that its activation is possibly by error as both parties where coming to an agreement. Said agreement would finally end beneficially for Fans in the USA by opening the physical distribution to stores in that country. This brief pause of activity is as harmful to the interests of Moon Design as it is to Gamezone Miniatures.

We are as surprised as the Heroquest community, we didn't expect that on Thanksgiving, of all days, to be wrapped up in this mess, that is so disagreeable for everyone involved. On a day such as this it is extremely complicated to get in touch with Moon Design. We are working diligently on a solution so we can continue with the project from where it is at the moment and reinforce it for the future.

Thank you. Dionisio

Gotta say that its a black mark against Moon Design IMO.

Having worked with them before, I wouldn't put that past them. Although I'm not 100% sure they're wrong in this instance. The history of the HeroQuest trademark is a long and contentious one, MDP may feel like they have to defend it aggressively just in case.
