This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Zak S;816976Yoon-Suin is definitely worth picking up-one of the most original and fully-realized settings period in DIY D&D or otherwise.

This is not a retread of anything familiar, but at the same time it has a magic and a logic holding it together that makes it easy to get into the spirit.

Thanks, Zak.

I hope the last thing I can be accused of is being unoriginal. It may not be to everybody's tastes but it's not normal.

So far I have found it delightfully different. It's got a flavor all of it's own.

Bought it: gonna read it over the next few days and post a review asap. There's a lot of rich material to cover. This is gonna be cool.

First, thanks for such a fantastic review. Obviously it's nice to have such good comments but it's also really thorough. It made me smile.

On dwarfs: I get what you mean. I toyed with taking them out, but this setting evolved through play and there were dwarfs in it originally, and at the end of the day I do like them. But yeah, the thought of people taking them out doesn't bother me and works well.

I will once the print version is ready. That should be about a week or so away, I reckon.

Print version's up on Lulu, I just ordered it.

If it's any good at all (and I imagine it is from the blog), for the page count the price is pretty good (~$20 US).  I'd have payed more without blinking, but maybe the author's going for the widest circulation.

My friend wrote a very nice quasi-review of it: http://falsemachine.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/giant-oysters-are-never-surprised.html

He's my friend so you can take the whole thing with a pinch of salt, but there it is.

Has anyone PLAYED in a Yoon-Suin game? The setting sounds interesting, but I'd love to hear about some actual play and how the setting works at the table versus the armchair.

Good point. I would too.

My review was from the perspective of a GM using this as an addition to my toolbox. I'd love the play a campaign in the setting as-is, but it's more likely that I'll be borrowing bits and pieces for my current campaign (to generate material for a city or country).

I have plenty of times. :D

Here are some actual plays from my blog from an old campaign.

That'll be a more profound question when the settings been out longer than two weeks.  I'm still waiting for my hard-copy, for instance.  From a look at the pdf it'll go on my short list to run, but I'll have to pitch it.  I have a large pool of potential players but not a captive audience, so getting buy-in for a particular game is the only way I run anything.
