This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

An open request to Pundit

I'm putting this here to seperate it from all the BS in my admittedly finger-poking-in-the-eye thread in Off Topic. In short, I'd like to request that Pundit make the personal choice to refrain from responding to me or posting in my threads. Here's why:

1) I can't see his threads or posts, but he can (and frequently does) see mine and respond to them, often with insults directed at me.

2) I know he's currently engaged in conversations in some of those threads that don't involve me, but as I was also involved in conversations that didn't involve him, it seems to me that it's not a big sacrifice for him to do the same.

3) I'm not on any ignore lists, so there's no reason for him to dislike this idea from a moderator standpoint. If I were to do something that required moderator action of course he or another mod would do it immediately.

4) I think it's pretty disingenuous of someone to snipe at people that can't respond, or to argue against their points when they can't defend themselves.

I could go on, but basically my thought is that Pundit has said he can't IL me for reasons that are arguable but at least partially valid. However, he also seems to not want me to have anything to do with him or any of his threads, while still stirring up trouble in my threads and with my posts. That to me feels like an abuse of power.

OK, to see pundy's posts just come in thru a proxy server that blocks cvookies and scripts. Don't post, just read pundy's posts and if he insults you, respond after coming back in the regular way.

I think that insulting somneone on a forum after making things so they can't respind is heinous behavior, especially since jackson and one of his toadies, paladin, pulled it on me.
RPGPundit is a fucking fascist asshole and a hypocritial megadouche.

James McMurray

It's much easier than that. When logged out I can see everything. The point isn't so much that I can't see him, it's that I've been forbidden from responding to him, including his insults. I've also been forbidden from responding to huge number of intelligent (and otherwise) posts that don't have a thing to do with him beyond the unhappy coincidence of being in a thread he started.

Also, while I disagree with his action, the mods have spoken and I won't violate that by responding to anything he says with more than a reminder that it's silly to talk to people who you're supposedly avoiding.

Your request looks pretty reasonable, James. BTW, if Pundit posts to this thread, somebody should quote it him; it would only be fair.

However I honestly think the amount of energy people put into dogging Pundit is silly. If you think he's worth engaging intellectually, then debate him seriously. If not, then just let him express himself and trust in the audience as it were to make their own judgments. I see a lot of petty sniping directed his way which is just useless.

BTW I'm not an objective let alone omniscient observer, I'm just calling things as I see them. I'll add that I think the "reverse ignore" trick that Pundy's using is also a bad idea.

This is a good idea James. I've done this myself with a certain poster. I'd much rather it didn't come to this, but since it has, this seems like a pretty workable idea.

Well, he hasn't replied to this one so far. :)

And it's not like it would prevent him from telling me I'm a huge idiot if I make a fool of myself in a post. :) There's always PMs, which I can still see.

RPGPundit

Its not my plan to snipe at you, so that's sort of beside the point.

In any case, since this is another phase in your little gimpy power struggle, I'll make you a compromise: I'll ignore this one thread from here on. There you go, enjoy.

James McMurray, why don't you just ease off?

It's tiresome now. You know me - you know we disagree on a lot of shit, but you know I'm always straightforward and open about things, confess when I've fucked up and so on. And you know I've not shied from criticising RPGundit when I think he's being a cocksmock. Hell, that was my entry call when I joined the site.

I'm telling you, it's too much, and ease off. You could be spending your energy so much more productively - say, by running a roleplaying game for a few of us to play by way of IRC or IM.

It's too much. Turn the volume down from 11 to just 5 or 6. Forget the rhetorical tricks and logical fallacies, and confine yourself to dealing with the truth or untruth of what RPGPundit (or anyone else) has said, rather than the person themselves. Personal attacks are for people with crappy arguments. You're better than that.

Ease off, mate.

Well, I guess we know the answer. Didn't think it would happen, but it was worth a shot. :|

JimBob, Pundit has gone just as strong as I am, except he's hiding away in safety while doing it. He says his plan isn't to insult me, but he's done it several times since ducking back behind his curtain.

Like I said, I didn't expect him to agree, and sadly also expected the snipe he gave in parting. Ah well, one can hope. :)

Kyle Aaron

Yes, but if you ignore his jabs, then he looks like a cocksmock, whereas if you respond, you both look like cocksmocks.

I mean, just think of old Dominus Nox jabbing at me. How often do I respond? And what's my image here compared to his? Sure, vile racism and batshit crazy politics is most of it, but him zapping at me while I don't respond at all helps a lot. He makes himself look bad, and me look better.

You should do the same with RPGPundit. Plus, you know, he has so many people jabbing at him, old Nisarg, that if you stop he'll soon forget you and move on to new targets.

Well, I kinda gotta ignore it now. But at least he was kind enough to throw me a bone there at the end. :D
