This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Darn it, where's that list of "most talked about" tabletop rpgs again?

That doesnt surprise me. I have not really heard much good about the Edge of the Empire.

Quote from: Justin Alexander;722639First, BESM was critically acclaimed.

Its later revamps were not treated kindly as I recall.

Quote from: Justin Alexander;722639Second, I'm curious about the world you live in where scandals make something less likely to be talked about.

[mildly humorous]
Huh, that reminds me, if scandal chatter is apparently enough to keep BESM on a list of relevance years after its crash-and-burn, why isn't FATAL there at all? It has to be one of the most beaten dead horse examples around, enough to earn it at least a bottom slot. I sure hear people reference it way more often than Firefly or Fading Suns (although this is purely anecdotal of course). [/mildly humorous]

Nifty that 13th Age hits both lists.  Back of the envelope calculation shows that D&D derived games make up ~82% of the chatter while non-D&D derived games make up ~18%.

That makes FATE (the most talky of the non-D&D) sit at about 2.6% of internet chatter - or slightly ahead of the OSR.

Shadowrun with its new edition is between OD&D and AD&D in talkiness.

Castles and Crusades made by me good old Arky boys down the street is about the same popularity as Dread.  Not sure what Dread is, but good job guys.

Soylent Green

I think Fate get's a large chunk of the 'talked about' pie because (a) a lot of people are busy hacking the system and pushing the toolset in different directions and (b) a lot of people seem to have trouble making sense of the system so they post a lot of questions. Which is not to say it isn't a popular game, just that it get's a lot of air time.

I am sure there a quite a few games that get a lot of play but don't require as much forum based support.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

IMHO it's a complete piece of overproduced shit. Besides being a pain in the ass to read and play, I also found the supposedly nice production values rather underwhelming.

People are apparently buying the shit out of it, though.

Quote from: Xavier Onassiss;722411I think the real question is, talked about where, exactly?

The ENworld forums?

A different forum, or a group of forums?

The internet as a whole?

The FLGS?

The webmaster's basement on game night? [/snark]

He says it's over 1000 RSS feeds of data from across the web, mostly message boards but some other sources.  The only thing specifically excluded is the home forum of game publishers themselves.

Quote from: TristramEvans;722640BESM wouldnt be surprising if this was 2002. I guess its just that these results are taken "over all time", when I was expecting something that was looking more at current trends.

It's not over all time, it's using current RSS feeds.  Apparently, it's being talked about currently.  The numbers fluctuate every day.

As for why - I have no idea.

If you hover over the name, a raw score will appear, and that raw score is directly comparable to the other charts (not adjusted for the list it's on).

Says it is a 90 day feed right on the tin.  So, the numbers for today will be from 10/13/2013 through today.  Tomorrow's numbers would be from 10/14/2013 through tomorrow.

Well, I font frequent alot of forums these days so Im not as "in the loop" as ten years ago.

N.E.W. at 4.78% makes me think there's something weird about the counting method. Or I'm just really, really out of the loop.

Results are for past 90 days, actually.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

It looks like N.E.W. is enworld's own (as yet unfinished) game. Perhaps the hotness table includes some enworld playtesting feeds or something.

arminius

I imagine it does, but that still raises questions as to how the various sources are counted and weighted.

It's not at 4.78% for all RPGs.  You're looking at the chart on the left, which excludes D&D-like games.  To see actual ranking, hover over the name, and then compare it to the middle chart numbers.  You will see it has a score of 62.5.  That would put it at less than 1%.
