This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

We local Knoxville gamers are doing a charity event at the end of the month called Save vs Hunger. I'd just like to encourage other gamers reading this to gather some people together and do something similar.

It could only improve our hobby's visibility.

Yeah, I do volunteer work here and I will only do it for Second Harvest and the Young-Williams Animal Center. Both are great.

I remember when we had cons around these parts (last one I recall was 17 years ago) and the entrance fee was one kilogram of grain, for a then-famous and reputable NGO food safety program.

That is the kind of thing I am trying to encourage.

I'm myself working towards a smaller thing - GMing forchildren recovering after operations in hospitals. Good luck and have fun.

Let us know how that turns out. I've been wanting to try something like that for awhile now.

My mom does volunteer work for a local hospital and there are lots of programs for little kids and lots of volunteers who want to help with the wee ones, but its a wasteland for teens.

I am sure that offering to hang with the 13-17 crowd playing RPGs and boardgames would be welcome.

Thanks, will try that - a crowd a bit more fit for RPGs anyway.

I'm scribbling this down because I'd like to try that approach once I get everything else taken care of.

Hopefully I'll be able to attend this.  They did pick the perfect weekend for it - the only football is the probowl which nobody watches.
