This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Exploderwizard;580312Yup. Heck if I can get decent quality POD product then I will pay again for product I already own in addition to stuff I don't have.

Now that's an interesting idea; how hard would it be for them to do POD on most of these things?

Well, if small time OSR companies can offer decent POD products via Lulu then WOTC doesn't have an excuse except not wanting to.
Quote from: JonWakeGamers, as a whole, are much like primitive cavemen when confronted with a new game. Rather than \'oh, neat, what\'s this do?\', the reaction is to decide if it\'s a sex hole, then hit it with a rock.

Quote from: Old Geezer;724252At some point it seems like D&D is going to disappear up its own ass.

Quote from: Kyle Aaron;766997In the randomness of the dice lies the seed for the great oak of creativity and fun. The great virtue of the dice is that they come without boxed text.

It could be quite a moneymaker.

Quote from: Sacrosanct;580045You know what I'd like to see them do?

Re-release all that old stuff with a D&D5e conversion included.  I don't care if it's just a few page appendix at the end that says, "Use these stats instead."

That way not only do I get access back to all of my favorite adventures of yore, but I can use them for my 5e games as well.

I've been gaming and designing games for a long time, so if need be I'm sure I could do the conversion myself.  But since 5e is still new, I'd rather have an official conversion if possible--something I could play right after downloading without extra work.

Now, I'm not saying 5e is replacing my edition of choice (1e with 2e elements), but it seems easy enough to houserule those things I don't like, and so far my experience has shown me that I can play it a lot like I play AD&D now.  Being able to have current support as the "main" edition, as well as increasing the player base for that edition are bonuses.

I like this quite a bit. "Play Forgotten Realms of any era with 5e!"

I'm sure there'd be quite a lot of people who'd go extremely overboard with this, to WoTC's benefit.

There would definitely be a Gold Rush effect as people tried to get their copies before WotC yanked it all again.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

If they did that, it'd be worst than the last time. It'd be a PR catastrophe.
