This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Soliciting advice for a gift

One of my best friends is in my gaming group, and her birthday is coming up.  I have no idea what to get her that's gaming related that isn't more pretty dice.  I always get her dice as part of a gift, so I don't want to do that.

I can't think of a game book she needs, either.  I spoke with her husband today about getting her miniatures, but she really doesn't have time to paint them nor would she appreciate it if I bought her pre-paints or painted them myself.  She has Munchkin and Ninja Burger and a bunch of other gamery games...so I'd like to get her something RPG related that isn't dice.

Any ideas folks?

How about a good pen and/or journal to write notes while gaming?  A nice leather bound journal that you can find with either plain, lined, or quad paper.  Maybe a nice mechanical pencil?

Doom

It's tough buying gifts for a gamer girl sometimes.

Have you considered buying a Renaissance fair type costume?

That might be a bit much...how about a set of elf ears? My gf just loves here, and she's pretty cute in them, I admit.

There's a "Bag of Holding" knapsack you might find online...gf has that, too, and likes it alot.

You could get a fantasy print/picture to hang on a wall. Unicorns are usually popular with the xx chromosome types.

That's off the top of my head, I'd need a price range to get more ideas.

A nice education blog.

What about having her favorite character illustrated? My GM alternate did this for everyone for Christmas one year and it was a huge hit.

Good idea!
I like Paperblanks, plain, in "ultra" size, with magnetic wrap and a pouch in the back cover.

And personalize it.

  • A hand drawn character sheet on the first two pages (or more if your system of choice is more crunchy)
  • A map of either the homeland or the main campaign region, showing the travels of her character
  • A random table she may roll on whenever she likes, with very very minor effects on the game (like a cantrip version of the Deck of Many Things)
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

I don't understand.  I'm trying to be creative here...I don't think she has any kind of wish list, except perhaps at ThinkGeek.

@Spinachcat: I like the idea of a Drivethru certificate...

I really like the idea of a nice journal...she could use it when she GMs next.  Pencils we've got, I make sure to keep a courtesy cup of mechanical pencils at the table.

Her femininity isn't so much of a much when it comes to gamer gifts.  She already has a bag of holding (which is awesome) and a stunning array of T-shirts.  I'm trying to think outside the box, and y'all are doing wonders!

We're currently playing Classic Deadlands, but we switch games every few months (we make sure each campaign has a definite ending before we play).  She last ran Scion, but is thinking of running an alien sci-fi thriller next.  I have no idea what we're playing after Deadlands.  I thought about getting her something that commemorates the game, but I'm not sure.

Commemorate a Deadlands game, huh?  I bet she doesn't have any bullet-shaped counters.

My group has had a lot of fun with FtA!, but I really know very little about Gnomemurdered.  It's basically a joke game, right?
