This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The BBC Lie

I share my thoughts about a recent BBC one-minute video featuring a portly feminist claiming that "D&D isn't for beardos in basements" and simultaneously damning the lack of "diversity" and "inclusion" in our hobby.

Also, I show you how I make Turkish Coffee.

Even your coffee is OSR. Bravo for consistency. Your video is spot on.

Edit: Your brewing method is solid. The *only* thing I'd suggest is a couple of stirs for agitation. It helps with the emulsion of the grinds. Hey what do you use for a grinder? Hand-grinder?

Ugh, that video of the whiny SJW made me want to vomit. I expect no less from the British Broadcasting Channel

The only kind of BBC I have any interest in is the kind that is used to fuck white girls with big butts in porn videos! :D:p

Hey man, I'm a top! What use would I have with a BBC?

Unless I'm paying the bulls to cuck the executives at the British Broadcasting Channel and the left-wing members of the British Pariliament and filming the action to sell to the highest bidder...and also send the footage to WikiLeaks and Pornhub for free:D

You thought Yewtree was a scandal? This is going to be like fuckin' JFK for the British establishment!

I will only destroy the footage under the condition that Parliament legalizes civilian ownership of guns and blades and also makes freedom of speech the law of the land.

I might also hire a few bulls for the closet cases in Parliament and the Anglican Church.

Quick, does anybody have the contact info for Milo Yiannopolous? If anyone knows of well-hung black men who want to trigger and own the leftists, it'd be him.

My group has only 1.5 beards between us, is only 40% white and no one has a basement but otherwise yes exactly we are beardos gatekeeping so that fat white women that we have never met can not play DnD.  o_O

I watched the new video by Pundit.

Coffee is important to me as well.  I like it strong, and fresh.  Cream is good sometimes.  Sugar isn't really necessary, but I like it that way too.

Modern liberal extremist thinking is a disease.  It is ruining RPGs, to an extent.

By the way, this makes 1,000 posts in 13 months on theRPGsite.  It's been fun.

Oh, and FUTANKA!!!

I guess this is the flip side of all the cool hipsters claiming to be nerds now?

That's pretty good coffee, and about the right way the Bosnians do it. I am more of an espresso drinker, but every so often, I get an insatiable craving for Turkish, so I have two of these pots at home (one more for decoration than actual use). It works well with darker roasts (the best when it is almost oily), while something like the AeroPress is more for light beans.

...oh, the BBC woman! That video barely qualifies as an argument, but it does describe a certain mindset, which proposes driving the existing gamers out of the hobby so it can be inherited by the pure and sufficiently diverse. Goddamn fucking colonists, the entire lot of them. Those who have a good memory will recall that this meme was already in vogue around 2012... or was that 2006? Nah, it was prophesised by none else but Jeff Freeman (PBUH) in 1997! A lot of this rot started with the groups around White Wolf, and their contempt against the rest of the hobby. It just got a very good megaphone, and an internet army.

I hope we're adult enough to understand that the BBC giving someone 60 seconds to air a view isn't the same as the BBC believing or supporting this point.  I am capable of not thinking that Pundit supports every view he gives a platform to here.

I went to look at the original thread on Twitter and found the following tweet which I think nailed it and extends your point, #Melan. There also needs to be some self-justification of why it's now OK to be a gamer.

yanno? I would have watched the video for the turkish coffee portion, but I have zero interest in the pundit's take on a shit BBC viddy.  I used to make it myself, but I was so agonizingly slow (20 minutes for a tiny thimble full of delicious coffee) that I gave up on it except for those special occasions... maybe I was doing it wrong?

Now I want to go look up youtube videos on turkish coffee.

... and NOW I want to head back to Seattle to that excellent turkish restaraunt on the west side (Ephesus, if you're curious), for some kebabs and, yes, coffee.  Oh well, maybe around Christmas...

Humblebrag: I had turkish coffee in turkey once.  I'd forgotten that, but now I feel so much more awesome than everyone else because of it.

... And NOW I want to go visit Turkey for reals. And probably drink coffee while I'm there.

Damn, this OP is a spider hole of madness.  Gotta get out while the getting is good...

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

The other side of the coin is that maybe 10+ years ago, people voluntarily equated D&D with 'beardos' as a derogatory comment on those who played this 'nerdy' game. Now that the game has gained popularity, it is cool to play it so long as it is no longer for those who started with it from the beginning.

Its like if you are brand new to the game you are accepted, but if you were a part of the game from the beginning you have to prove your acceptability... like anyone who has played the game for more than a year has to prove their worth to be a part of the current D&D culture. The culture of the game is purposefully shedding its roots without really understanding them. There is a lot of misinformation out there about how the game was played.

I see a lot of comments on forums about the deficiencies of old school D&D. My main thought is that these are mostly posts by people playing old school D&D as pre-teens and all that implies... and how that affects their opinions on the game. I'll state for a fact that my experience with Basic D&D and AD&D as a 10 year old, does not match my understanding of the rules as I have read them as an adult.

People who are my age played AD&D and B/X as kids with all the childnessish that goes along with being kids at the time and then say that those games are crap based on that experience.

No, not with this coffee. Turkish is so fine that I couldn't find a grinder here able to do it, so I buy this coffee pre-ground.
