Quote from: jeff37923;1097537Maybe, but it is hard to see the trials of Kanan Jarus right up to his death scene and say that it wasn't good.

Helicoptering lightsaber flight says it wasn't good to me, and that was only one symptom of the disease.

Quote from: jeff37923;1097816I was under the impression that Discovery was part of nuTrek.

The Orville is outperforming the current Star Trek franchise because it is following the template that was laid down during TNG when Star Trek was still fresh and not a cash cow milked to death.

Discovery is in the same universe as TNG, DS9 and Voyager. Even if the writers hadn't stated as such, it takes place before the timey-whimey shenanigans that Abrams wrote.

What's the time stamp where they talk about the time travel theory?

Quote from: deadDMwalking;1097710I disagree with this quite strongly.  It shitwrecked Star Trek.

Time Travel always had a place in Star Trek, and the TV series Enterprise made maintaining that continuum a central theme.  Some things, like Tasha Yarr traveling back in time to have a heroic moment were both surprising and kinda cool - they gave a much better send-off to the character than a pile of evil goo ever could.  But having a disaffected miner coming back and destroying Vulcan is super-dumb.

The ST movies have way way overused time travel at this point. Moreso in the various series. Voyager and Enterprise in particular. That and the Mirror Universe in the various series. DS9, Enterprise, and Discovery now.

I think it's been hit or miss. I used to hate Year of Hell, because it was the epitome of what I hate about reset button time travel. They put their precious characters in life-changing situations, milk the drama, and then hit the reset button so the show can go back to the status quo. But the ending is so good,

The antagonist's technology for tinkering with the timeline is the very thing that kept him from being able to change the past
I give it a semi-pass.
And Enterprise gave us my very favorite Mirror Universe epsiodes. Seeing them change the intro sequence, and a TOS era Constitution class ship wrecking face in ENT era was sweet.

What I didn't like about 09 Trek's use of it is that they blew up Vulcan, and I didn't care. Abrams and especially Kurtzman have no clue how to build tension or stakes.

So yeah, this theory seemed unlikely to me because it would be just too dumb. I expect dumbness of a bit slighter caliber if dumb as fak. According to the grapevine testscreening people have walked out of this movies alternate endings. I also heard a recent rumour from youtuber Doomcock that the Emperor who Vader threw into the planets elevator shaft was in fact a clone remote controlled from another planet. Thats a rumour i also suspect will be false. Its just too insulting. After the Last Jedi i expect to be insulted but just in a smaller scale. After seeing that movie i swore to myself not to watch another star wars thing again because there is a limit to how much of creator beeing a dick i can take. So imma skip the last skywalker or whaterver this thing is called. I have better things to do with my life.

Yea. The later trailers seem to indicate something a bit more mundane. The Emperor was behind all the FO stuff, and is going to be ressurected and lead the old Empire which is somehow in stasis, to try and take over the galaxy again.

But even Ian McDiarmid can't save their train wreck series.

Lol. A back-to-the-future style plot would certainly be unexpected.

Hoping this one is good. Going to wait till it gets out of the theater to see it though

LOL, if its true the paid audience tried to walk out during the test screening, this should be hysterical.

Of course, internet rumors are most likely false, but apparently, the leaked script (which JJ Abrams claims is real and Boyega admits to losing) actually confirms the disastrous discussions that have been coming out of the "leaks" from screeners, but who knows.

The leaked plotline sounds utterly idiotic, but way too in line with the previous two flicks. Hopefully, its just a smart troll.

Imagine if they just do a time travel retrospective like Avengers End Game and bring Darth Vadar and Emperor Palpatine back just in time to take over the First Order.  Still, I do have one niggling notion about Palpatine's involvement, for a guy who keeps saying "I have forseen it" and "Everything is going according to my plan" he sure goes down like a plan.  Maybe his real vengeance is to destroy the franchise itself!

I suspect the account that Rey was at the end superpowerful, possibly raising the dead. And the Force had been heavily re-written to accommodate this seems more likely as it follows through the progression in the new series of her power growing to ever higher levels and the director stating essentially that "The Force isn't what fans think it is".

In the end though its all hearsay and impossible o conform or deny any of it since Disney has shown their utter disrespect for the franchise and can and will overwrite existing facts to suit their agendas. Worse. In this day and age of fake news. It is possible this is all just another outrage advertising ploy.

Doesn't Disney already assume that the naysayers don't actually see their films? Don't the naysayers assume that positive reviews are Disney shills?
