QuoteIn 2010, Pathfinder's Kingmaker Adventure Path raised the bar on what a tabletop fantasy RPG campaign could be. With open-ended sandbox-style adventures, Kingmaker beckoned players to claim their throne and carve a new nation out of the treacherous River Kingdoms, map hex by map hex. Tens of thousands of gamers answered the call, ranking Kingmaker among the best-known and best-loved tabletop campaigns in history.

Last fall, Owlcat Games released a best-selling computer game adaptation of the Kingmaker campaign, adding new adventures, new mysteries, and more than a dozen new companions to accompany the players as they expand their holdings from a single fortress to a burgeoning empire. A new generation of rulers have schemed and sliced their way to the heights of power in the River Kingdoms, and interest in the Kingmaker campaign has never been higher!

Alas, all six Pathfinder Adventure Path volumes featuring the original Kingmaker campaign are out of print, and have been for years. Assembling a full set of used original volumes and associated accessories can cost hundreds of dollars.

Fortunately, 2020 is the 10th Anniversary of the Kingmaker Adventure Path. Next year is the perfect time to celebrate with a brand new collected and expanded hardcover compilation of the Kingmaker campaign for the second edition of the Pathfinder RPG, along with a little something special for our friends who prefer 5E.

The only question is... how ambitious do we get?

That's where you come in.

The campaign is live now with over $70,000 raised so far.  It does not matter which brand of DnD you play or how much Social you like mixed with your Justice - bring your inner Warrior to show the River Kingdoms who is the boss.

I think someone posted earlier that it was originally released for D&D 3.5 and not PF1E.
I need you to roll a perception check.....

This is the all new Kingmaker Hardback for PF 2E with extra Bestiary's for both PF 1E and DnD 5E.

I don't see how.  Pathfinder was already fully published in 2009 and Kingmaker was published in 2010, well after D&D was in 4th.

On topic though, Paizo is considering releasing a single volume reprint of the campaign in PF1 format.   They are just pondering the idea, but if there is enough demand they just might do it.

Kingmaker was originally PF, not 3.5.  It was the second AP released for PF, once they converted.

Where do you see that?  In the paizo.com thread, their COO shot down the idea of a separate 5E and PF1E book, that there would be the version-specific bestiaries, but the actual campaign book is going to be PF2E, and there will be conversion guides for 5E/PF1E.

That could be one of the stretch goals that has not been revealed yet.

Currently the Pawn Box is unlocked at $100K, the Flip Mat at $130K and Amiri added to the Campaign Guide Expansion at $150K

Well, if it happens, that'd be nice.  I just backed at the early-bird (first 24 hours of campaign) level.

While I haven't played the PC game, I was under the impression it used a fair amount of material from later PF rulebooks, stuff like oracles and magus and the like. Stuff that 5e and 2e don't have (I guess 2e comes with the Alchemist). It's going to be interesting to see how those are supported in 5e/PF2

There seems to be a current trend in game design to stat up all NPCs as monsters so it would be relatively easy with the new 2e rules to make up a 5th level Magus NPC monster for the party to fight that would not be the same as a 5th level Magus PC.  It would not matter if there were no rules for making a PC Magus.

I get a kick out of the people on the Paizo forums bellyaching that they won't be publishing a PF1 version of the hardback. What part of "Paizo is moving on from PF1" don't these dolts understand? They're not keeping one foot in PF1 and one in PF2. They're determined that it's in the strategic interests of their company to make a decisive break. Most long-time Pathfinder fans already have the PF1 books of Kingmaker, and the PDFs are readily available for those who don't.

As the 6th of 24 APs, Kingmaker is LONG out of print.  There's been a ton of demand for a reprint of it for the past decade.  Most long-time PF fans DON'T have it in print.

Considering that they're supporting PF1E by printing a hardback Kingmaker Bestiary for PF1E, and providing a conversion guide, I'd say their strategic interests don't involve all that decisive of a break.

Guess all that bellyaching paid off.

It was a while ago on their forums.   It wasn't going to be the same tome as the PF2/5e campaign, it was just going to be the very original six books reprinted in one volume.  No updates, no editing, just mash the files together and print.  They might have also just been testing the water on it, considering only, not making plans.

kythri

Was actual staff involved in that conversation?  That goes against everything they've ever talked about when it comes to reprint.

Especially odd, considering they've still got (2) 3.5 APs that haven't been updated for PF that are older than Kingmaker.
