This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Nuff said.

Lots of World War II games, and maybe Indiana Jones stuff, and that one Star Trek episode with Nazis in space? Surprising but the details promise to be quite interesting.

Oh, wait, no, it's just another political thread.

Quote from: Azraele;1052134Well welcome to the forums; as it turns out, we actually talk about gaming more than this stuff.

Maybe there are more threads about gaming, but the political threads always get a lot of replies quickly, and politics seeps in everywhere here. So it only turns out like that if the methodology is chosen carefully.

Sadly theres been a gradual increase in grumbling about people playing or making WWII themed games too. Still fairly rare, least as far as I know as I dont frequent the BGG wargame forum much. But it is getting slowly more notable. I dont think anyone has actually called for the banning of play of these games yet. But theres been a few rare loons who equate playing the Germans in a WWII game with actually being a Nazi. These are the same ones though who cant separate fiction from reality and really lost it during the whole "Tournament of Rapists" blowup or D&D and those claiming FIGHTING demons makes you a satan worshipper.

I wonder what those same people think of the actors cast to play Germans in WW2 movies.

Oh not just them, and it goes wayyyyy back to the silent era of film. Some actors and actresses would be acosted by people for the evil deeds their characters did. And in one hilarious yet scary incident a person sought out the actor to have the actor do evil things to them! :D

And back when it was still around the IMDb forums for movies would occasionally have a thread with some nut condemning the actor for doing something that wasnt real. Solemnly stating that actor was a real murderer.

People like this should never be allowed near anything imaginary or make believe.

I've seen more than one lunitic screed about how playing the Germans in a WWII minis game supports facism.

Quote from: Gagarth;1052123Apparently Gencon was so filled with Nazis comitting microaggressions that POC did not feel safe joining for fear of being triggered. This is from email sent to one of the many Gencon  SJW panellists.

Not a surprise at all.

Of course, the email could easily be bullshit. The blogger has her agenda and suddenly an email arrives complimenting her and her agenda. Amazeballs.

Next up, mysterious 5 star Yelp reviews for crappy restaurants!!

But you're a Klingon and thus, a Space Nazi.

Back in the day, we had guys who dressed up in Nazi cosplay at Axis & Allies tournaments and played in full character...and they weren't Nazis either.

No more Nazi than any British actor.

40k fandom is getting SJW idiocy screeching that playing Space Marines or Imperial Guard (or really any 40k) makes you a fascist.

But yet again, we have the usual SJW dictionary entry where Nazi = anyone who disagrees with me or likes something I don't.

And the only answer remains RELENTLESS PUSHBACK.

S'mon

I can see it with the WH40K Space Marines who are explicit Ubermensch. But the Imperial Guard seem more like the Red Army to me. Or Verhoeven's Starship Troopers.

I can see sjws having a frothing rage fit at the commisar unit in 40k. If I'm not miztaken they can shoot you were you stand for cowardice in front of the enemy.

In the days before cell-phones at my first Con in LA (OrcCon).. I vividly remember walking into the open gaming area, packed with hundreds of people playing... even back then there were lots of cosplayers (before that was even a word). I was taking it all in, seriously thinking I just stepped into another world.

I had just walked through an entire ballroom filled with wargamers doing a weekend-long re-enactment of World War II, and they were just getting going. And all these *old* guys in there were totally engrossed in it. Which made me engrossed in it - though I never played a wargame in my life.

It was all super-facinating. I felt like Luke in the Mos Eisly cantina...

Then I heard this voice behind me as I was staring into the Open gaming area, "What is this? It looks like the Allies have taken over!"

I turned around and there was this skinny older black guy with a big smile on his face wearing a full Nazi Officer uniform with hat - but because he was a big nerd, and had no sense of style, his afro was jutting out from under his hat. It looked absolutely ridiculous - but he gave no fucks. The look on his face was pure delight at simply being a big nerd among nerds reveling in the camaraderie of our hobby. And my smile of surprise turned into a bigger smile of pure absurd fun.

And it made me realize how much I loved the hobby at the moment...

how times have changed...

I used to go to OrcCon decades ago when I lived in SoCal, and I definitely remember the massive wargaming room. Those guys were hard core. They would have this map of eastern Europe on the Soviet Union that took up a quarter of a large room. They'd start Operation Barbarossa on the first day, and by the afternoon of the last day the advance toward Moscow would still be going on.

Exactly!! It was like looking at an WWII era war-room where all these guys are poring over these massive maps - along with their battlefields meticulously set up, measured for scale etc.

And they had all their aerial battles with these planes on these mobile poles with dials that regulated their movement and manuevering based on the craft - and they did the Battle for Britain and Pearl Harbor - it was insane...

At the end of the weekend - I'm totally exhausted from gaming and I drift past the War Room... and those crazy bastards are still going. I love that passion.

With the talk about WWII quietly being called "problematic" in SJW circles... I wonder how long before it filters down to these guys (if it hasn't already - I don't go to Cons anymore).

Larsdangly

I like WWII war games (particularly Panzer Blitz, Panzer Leader and Panzer Grenadier), so I get what you are saying. But it is also true that there is some overlap on the Ven diagram between wargamer nerds who like WWII themed games and Nazi fetishists who like Nazi regalia and hold warm thoughts about the martial spirit of the wehrmacht. These guys are creeps. No one can deny they exist, and they gravitate to these sorts of gaming communities. They also gravitate toward HEMA fencing clubs (we've had to kick a couple out of the one I attend). So, go ahead and enjoy your PKW V vs. T34 matchups, but keep in mind that the germans rounded up and shot millions of innocent civilians while those battles were going on, and there are some super shitty people out there who are kind of cool with it.

Reads thread;

Is it wrong that I now feel mildly inspired to make a story game about being trapped in a WW2 concentration camp. The goal isn't to beat the Nazis, its to survive until the white male Americans (or Russians) save you. :p

It does nothing to show this kind of attitude is typical or common.  If you think it is common, it is because you already had some reason to believe it based on prior experience or belief.

So what does? Is the only truth that which Leftiest academics publish based on their typically biased evidence gathering?
