This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A spot of fantasy art... (larger download than the average thread)

Hey, I posted a few times here absolutely ages ago, and now mostly lurk.

I felt like posting this piece of painting I did this week, since as I was making it I envisaged the main fighter/paladin character yelling "Forward! To Adventure!" and I thought that might tickle you good burghers of the rpgsite. :pundit:

I hope I haven't posted this terribly out of place.  I think I saw some of Rick Hershey's fine pen and ink work here a while back, so I hope its ok.

My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Nice work.
Although what is the Kilted/skirted man wielding? Its got an odd head for a staff, but it seems a bit odd for an axe as well.

:) Thanks!

The barbarian fella is weilding a slightly fantastical variant on a duck's bill or "anchor" axe. Pretty much a bronze age piece of kit.  Oook - edit - its also loosely based on the Warring states period "ge" or dagger axe. Can't beleive I forgot that, having painted about 40 million of them for "Art of War" for Warhammer Historical!

The Good Assyrian

Wow!  Very nice work.  You should post more of your stuff if you have the inclination.

A few questions:  What mediums do you use?  Do you only do fantasy subjects?

Just curious.

Those are good questions...in fact, I was wondering if you had a website as well where we can look at your stuff and find out things like rates and any credits you have:)

I always thought those were "rounder" and less spadelike head-- but it is a "fantasy" piece so no worries it is cool anyway.

YAY Hodgson!

Ha ha I'm friends with Wayne and now he'll punch me in the face if he reads that. ;)  To be fair to the good Mr Reynolds his work for Osprey Publishing doesn't include any dungeonpunk elements, so I guess he knows where it lies in the commercial arena - ie: as a commercial illustrator you do what you are asked to do. And he does it so very well. Of course, you can't please all the people all the time. :pundit:

Thanks for the kind words folks, glad you liked it!

Yup, that's my site, linked up there. I mostly work in digital media - so Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter.  There's (some) more recent stuff here: http://jonhodgson.deviantart.com/ since its easier for me to update on a whim, whereas my actual site takes work!

Probably most of my work is actually historical stuff for Games Workshop's Warhammer Historical line.

SilverLion - oh yeah, its a fantasy thing for definite. Its a funny line to walk really - I like my armour to be realistic and at least mostly historical, but then I painted a massive winged, fire breathing lizard. Go figure. ;) :)

ancientgamer - just drop me an email via my site for rates if you would like to.

Thanks for looking! :)

Oh yes, I have seen some of WAR´s tremendous Osprey stuff, now as you say it.
WAR truly is a very fine craftsmen.

Still, non-retro-non-Dungeonpunk is still a very refreshing and uplifting thing to see.

Jon, excellent stuff.  Did you just post this up at Concept Art/Finally Finished? I really like the style.
