This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

What Republicans Believe

A very interesting poll was taken of over 2000 self-identified Republicans. The following is a list of what they believe, based on the majority response to the questions:

(bolded answers are those with an absolute majority)
-They will vote in the next elections (83%)
-They are undecided as to which Republican candidate they would like (42%)
-They believe Barack Obama should be impeached (39%; note that 32% say he shouldn't and the rest are unsure)
-They believe Obama was born in the U.S. (42%)
-They think Obama is a socialist (63%)
-They do not believe Obama wants the terrorists to win (43%)
-They believe Sarah Palin is more qualified than Obama to be President (53%)
-They do not believe Obama is a racist who hates white people (36%)
-They do not believe their state should secede from the Union (58%)
-They do not believe congress should make it easier for workers to join unions (68%)
-They are opposed to allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S. if they paid a fine and agreed to learn English (59%)
-They do not believe openly gay men and women should serve in the military (55%)
-They do not believe in same-sex marriage (77%)
-They do not believe gay couples should receive any state or federal benefits (68%)
-They do not believe homosexuals should be allowed to teach in public schools (73%)
-They do not believe sex education should be taught in public schools (51%)
-They believe that public school students should be taught that the Book of Genesis explains how God created the world (77%)
-They believe that marriages are equal partnerships between husband and wife (76%)
-They do not believe contraceptives should be outlawed (56%)
-They do not believe that the birth control pill is abortion (48%)
-They consider abortion to be murder (76%)
-They support the death penalty (91%)
-They believe women should work outside the home (86%)
-They believe that the only way for an individual to go to heaven is through faith in Jesus Christ (67%)

These are some interesting numbers; it would also be interesting to see a similar poll of a similar size with self-identifying democrats, either asking the same questions, or (better still) asking the questions relating to issues that are usually seen as Democrat positions.

Even Ronald Reagan was significantly to the left of the people represented in those poll results.

I would not be surprised to see the US splinter into multiple nations in the next 50 years.   Culturally, the country is increasingly splintered.  Might as well break into more governable units along those cultural lines.

I would love to see Republican shit move out of California and wank itself to death in some flyover state.

Meanwhile, we can create a supertech sintopia on the coast.

With California-style politics and lack of organization?

That would fall into chaos within 5 years.

Northern California might survive okay tho.

I think this trend can (and will) change.

The thing to remember though is that most people are moderates on most days.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

A poll site that 64% Republicans think your president is a racist that hates white people and that homosexuals (73%) should not be allowed to be teachers and you guys jump on the fact that California is a badly run economy and you blame the liberals not the Republican governator.... hysterical.

This poll can't be genuine surely or at best its run in some fringe right wing Republican webzine.

I mean 39% want the president impeached but he hasn't actually been accused of anything at all.... and  Sarah Palin....

Dude, the US conservative mainstream sincerely believes that Obama is not only left wing, but socialist, and that state healthcare is a dismal failure in the developed world.  Nothing is too absurd.

Hell, they'd probably believe that the world's scientists are engaged in a global anti-capitalist conspiracy if a former BAT lobbyist said so.

danbuter

If you read Obama's own book, you'd know he is a racist. Not to mention his family pastor, who he somehow never listened to in 20 years.

I think many of these positions are over-blown, though. It would be like making a poll for Democrats and reporting the answers as "Do you support killing babies?" and "Do you think we should replace all our workers with illegal Mexicans who only make $4 an hour?".

Fuck. Just fuck. Somebody start Armegaddon already. 99.9% of the population needs to die. Even if I'm one of the dead, bring it on. Dead is better than dealing with the idiocy represented in that fucking poll. Just wipe humanity out and start over, please.

You don't know how polling works, do you?

If X number of people agree with a position, it does not stand that Y people (those exactly opposed to the position) equals 100-X.

A large number of people likely do not agree with either X or Y positions, or simply do not have an opinion.

In other words: If 50% of people hate broccoli it does not mean 50% of people love broccoli.

So here, we're actually GIVEN the number of people who do or don't think Obama should be impeached. But this is the only stat where the information appears. There is nothing to indicate that there are 40% of people who selected I Dunno, Lol in the questions I cited.
