SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Geeks are NOT smarter as a group than the average person. They're just freaks with wierd tastes, not the rest of the world's unappreciated intellectual superiors.  That's Swine-think, right there.

I find that gamers are full of useless information which makes some of them believe they are smarter than "normal" people.

Crap , I know a lot of useless shit myself but I'm smart enough to know that knowing something no one else cares about does not mean I'm smarter than average.

rcsample

I agree with Pundit.  Geeks/Gamers are not on average intellectually superior or in any way more special than the sportos, motorheads, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies or dickheads.

Except me.

I'm a unique little snowflake and a righteous dude to boot.

Doesn't have any bearing on me. 'Cause I'm no geek.;)

"Geeks are characterized by social isolation and eccentric behavior in childhood. They usually have a highly focused area of interest which usually leaves no space for more age appropriate, common interests. Particularly common interests are: means of transport (e.g., trains), computers, foreign languages, mathematics, science fiction, fantasy, astronomy, geography, history, and dinosaurs. Geeks often exhibit socially and emotionally inappropriate behavior and interpersonal interactions."

Geeks?  Or people diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome?

I read someplace that the incidence rates for Autism are 10x the national average in Silicon Valley -- and Asperger's and Autism are linked.  :(

It's actually pretty serious stuff to think about if you take pride in being a "geek" as opposed to "pretty regular" with a few "geeky interests".

Meh. I got aspberger syndrome. Inconvenience at worst. I mean really, so fucking what if I have a hobby and don't like people? Look at your average person... vapid. A living argument that I should have interests and avoid people.

I will say this: It's the best name for a mental disorder EVER.

And if you're wondering... you know... just 'cause... you can take the AQ Test.

"In the first major trial using the test, the average score in the control group was 16.4. Eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher. The test is not a means for making a diagnosis, however, and many who score above 32 and even meet the diagnostic criteria for mild autism or Asperger's report no difficulty functioning in their everyday lives."

I only score 7 on this test... I'm not really all that geeky.  You know... besides the computer thing... and, um... the RPG thing.  ;)

Ned the Lonely Donkey

My job is biting the heads of chickens at a freakshow - does that make me a geek?

Who noticed Q40? "When I was young, I used to enjoy playing games involving pretending with other children."

Some of us never stopped.

11, btw.

Haha! Gotta love how the definitition of a word migrates with time!

And yes, pretending makes you retarded (apparently).
