Holy shit, I've spent some time on the SJG's forums, and I have to say that without a doubt, its the most entertainingly fucked up fora in the hobby!  I mean, there are some seriously fucking bizzare people on there.

I mean, their regular GURPS forum doesn't really reveal the extent of the craziness, but if you head off into their "general chatter" forum, that's where the tinfoil-hat gang really comes out to shine!

Between the ultra-right wingers who will respond to absolutely any subject matter at all with a diatribe on the evils of government; to the ultra-ultra-rightwinger who's "location" name is "the world's last superpower" and who responds with a virulent tantrum should anyone say anything about the united states that isn't at the very least UBER-UBER-patriotic, or sycophantically worshipful if you aren't from the US.

And its not just the Americans, the Europeans too, are getting in on the fun! Like the Swede who hates socialism (he must be a lonely, lonely man...); or the German poster who actually made the perfectly serious argument that  creating children in artificial wombs and raising them in internment centers would be a better solution for Germany's population problem than to allow more immigrants to move in. Seriously, you can't make this shit up.

But while there is definitely a right-wing emphasis to the membership of the SJG boards (not totally surprising given SJ's own political bent), I wouldn't want you to think that they have the monopoly. No, there is a large minority of left-wing looneys who are fighting the good fight against the right-wing looneys.
Like for example: the guy who is a polygamist with two wives, one of them apparently grossly overweight, and the urgent need to come to the defence of absolutely any minority/oppressed group/sexual deviant/etc. no matter how absolutely vile their behaviour in question might be. Apparently, no one can be judged about anything in this guy's world, almost certainly because he'd be among the first to be declared too wierd to live. At the moment, he's engaging in a huge flamewar in defence of the fat kid who did the "star wars moves" video. His opponent? A guy who apparently believes that the solution to the AIDS crisis in Africa is to destroy the world's supply of condoms and go back to stoning people for adultery.

So yes, there is clearly only one group that truly monopolizes the SJG boards, and its neither the yanks nor the euros, not the right nor the left.
Its the brick-bashingly gourd-deficient aliens-from-neptune-are-sending-my-cat-secret-messages completely-fucking-bonkers looneys.
I always knew that too much GURPS was bad for mental health.

Well, what can you expect from a board that bans people for saying that the first casualty of islam is free speech, while allowing people to use the racist term "jap" to refer to the japanese with impunity?

At least the assholes running rpg.net have to make up an excuse to ban people, the assholes running sjg forums don't even do that.

As to some of the users...

Well, there's that toad qoltar, who posts like 13 times a day on average and is constantly toadying up to the mods, cheering every time somone gets banned while heaping disdain and contempt on everyone who's politics aren't to the right of atilla the hun. He kind of reminds me of that annoying creature in "return of the jedi" that groveled near jabba the hutt and laughed at anyone the hutt condemned. Thart would mnake andy hackard jabba the hutt, tho, and that might be unfair to jabba.

Then there's his buddy paladin, a guy who claims to be a marine. He attacked me on the forums by making remarks about my mother, and then attaacked me after I was banned yet again and unable to reply. Pewople who make remarks about people's mothers are scumbags, and people who attack people who can't respond are cowards.

Oh, there's asta kask, who founded the "paul support group" in a display of toadying unseen since Kind Edward practically sucked Hitler's dick in public.

There were some good users, like the guy called "old man" who left to join the hero forums due to the way the sjg forums were going. Jurgen hubert is OK and writes some good stuff. Doc Kromm is a great guy, so is dave pulver.

But basically there are 4 types who haven't been banned or left: Toadies like qoltar, right wing asshoes like paladin, people who write for sjg like Jurgen and   the fucking mod assholes like hackard and chapman. Most other people have left or been banned.

BTW, in today's illuminator (Dec 28 2006) weasel steve talks about the new reprint of gurps campaigns coming from thailand. So, Mr. Texan is using printers from a foreign country, thereby hurting america's economy and sending amewrican jobs and money overseas. Way to go, stevie!Thanks for helping add america's printing industry to the long list of american industries destroyed by foreign cheap labor!

...and in those short cold Christmas days, Dominus and The Pundit realized that  the gulf between them was smaller than either of them had ever thought. Perhaps there is common ground between us, was their unspoken thought. Perhaps we are not so different, after all.

Because if they could be united in their mutual disgust for Steve Jackson's fans, then perhaps they could be united in other things, as well. And if these two men could come together in hate, maybe we all could, too. Maybe nations could learn to hate, and learn to stand side-by-side, pointing and laughing at others.

But seriously, what do we see here again? The part of the forum which has nothing to do with roleplaying has got the craziest fuckers, and most of them don't game, or want to. They certainly don't talk about gaming much, too busy arguing about polygamous egalitarianism vs trashumanist libertarianism, or some shit like that.

I don't "hate" SJG or their forum, this wasn't meant to be a hate thread, it was a thread about its wackiness. I think the SJG forum site is overpopulated with nutcases.  The fact that they, the nutcases, collectively looked at Nox and said "shit, this guy is just too freaky to be allowed here", that's pretty telling.
