Congrats, NeverTrumpers. You helped put a drooling halfwit controlled by radleft flunkies in the White House, and they're doing their damnedest to make sure they never lose power again.

But hey, no more mean tweets!

I admit to some schadenfreude over the never Trumper conservatives getting bitten in the ass by Biden, but goddamn, what the hell did they expect?

To be honest, I have no idea.

I can understand 'I don't like Trump'. Fair enough. But 'I hate Trump so much I want to push China Joe into power'?

Holy shit, and they call Trump fans cultists?

I could understand if the idea was "Well, we're going to lose four years of ground on both conservative and liberal issues, but it's worth it to get rid of Trump."

Here was the signed statement on the group's website, that has since been taken down.

QuoteAS PRO-LIFE EVANGELICALS, WE DISAGREE WITH VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN AND THE DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM ON THE ISSUE OF ABORTION. BUT WE BELIEVE A BIBLICALLY SHAPED COMMITMENT TO THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE COMPELS US TO A CONSISTENT ETHIC OF LIFE THAT AFFIRMS THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE FROM BEGINNING TO END.

Many things that good political decisions could change destroy persons created in the image of God and violate the sanctity of human life. Poverty kills millions every year. So does lack of healthcare and smoking. Racism kills. Unless we quickly make major changes, devastating climate change will kill tens of millions. Poverty, lack of accessible health care services, smoking, racism and climate change are all pro-life issues. As the National Association of Evangelicals' official public policy document (FOR THE HEALTH OF THE NATION) insists, "Faithful evangelical civic engagement and witness must champion a biblically balanced agenda."  Therefore we oppose "one issue" political thinking because it lacks biblical balance.

Knowing that the most common reason women give for abortion is the financial difficulty of another child, we appreciate a number of Democratic proposals that would significantly alleviate that financial burden: accessible health services for all citizens, affordable childcare, a minimum wage that lifts workers out of poverty.

For these reasons, we believe that on balance, Joe Biden's policies are more consistent with the biblically shaped ethic of life than those of Donald Trump. Therefore, even as we continue to urge different policies on abortion, we urge evangelicals to elect Joe Biden as president.

From this, I'm not sure what they expected. They knew they were going to disagree on the issue of abortion, but they apparently supported him for issues of human life on other fronts - health care, childcare, and poverty.

Does anyone think that Kamala will be successfully able to take out Cumo?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes but there will be repercussions.

I don't think Cuomo is going to be wished off into the cornfield. He's an unmitigated ass who should be hanging from a lamppost for his Covid policies, but he doesn't seem to be willing to knuckle under yet. He's already made some very vague threats that he'll go scorched earth on the Democrats who support impeaching him, which could lead to Dwarf Fortress levels of hilarity.

If Kamala is pushing this, it's clear she expects to be the nominee in 2024. A shame she has less charisma than Hillary Clinton and comes off as a creepy power-tripping loon. If Biden kicks off and she takes control, expect her to fuck it up.

Honestly, I don't know how the conservative never Trump voters think. Except that they don't like Trump.

Some of it stems, in my opinion, from outsider envy. They're pissed because Trump glommed onto a serious issue -- illegal immigration and its knock-on effects, exacerbated by Democrat policies -- with both mitts, while by comparison they couldn't figure out their ass from a hole in the ground.

I mean, the RNC was trying to push Jeb Bush as a candidate. Really. What the fuck. While Trump was out there peddling America first (which, contrary to the delusions of lefties, had little to do with the America-First movement pre-WW2), the Republican establishment couldn't comprehend why Jeb was polling single digits.

And when Trump clinched the nomination, something snapped in them. How DARE the conservative base oppose them! Don't they know what's good for them?

Which is how you got grifters like Bill Kristol trying to push Egg McMuffin Evan McMullin as a third party candidate to screw the election.

Pat

Anybody know how widespread Never Trump is? Feels like more of a Beltway/establishment thing than a popular movement.

Ghostmaker

It's heavy among establishment GOP and 'uniparty' types.

But it's not nearly as widespread as they like among the voter base. That's what's killing them.

Brad

Listen to Hugh Hewitt in the mornings for about two weeks and you'll completely understand the "Never Trumper Beltway" mentality. Dude claims to be a staunch conservative, but says stuff all the time that I NEVER hear from anyone who isn't some jackass politician. Those people live in their own little pseudo-intellectual bubble and just cannot fathom the possibility everything they think about politics is absolutely wrong. They're stuck in the fucking 80s.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Biden's speeches so far have been more cogent than Trump's speeches, and the policy you're outraged about is not a radical policy but one supported by moderates. I have sympathy for pro-lifers, but as long as pro-choice is the law of the land it's absurd to bar certain types of funding from a legal medical procedure like that out of morality which doesn't exist in that law.

Ha, Hugh is pretty fairly representative of a lot of moderate Republicans. Particularly moderate Republicans in my part of the woods (New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and some of Idaho). People like to pretend the Republican party is unified, but we're not and never have been. Even between pro-Trump and anti-Trump, there are many variations within those two groups. I think we all don't like Progressives, but beyond that issue there is a lot of disagreement.

Fortunately, it's a big tent.

When he's not forgetting who his SecDef is, at any rate.

But keep deluding yourself that the demented hair-sniffer is some kind of moderate centrist and not the hand-puppet for a pack of radleftists eager to cement their grip on power.

It won't save you from them, you know.
