This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Although, I could still argue that unreal is unreal is unreal is unreal.

If something is made of the stuff of dreams, it doesn't really matter if it appears to be a person or appears to be an object. It is still only the stuff of shadow.

Strangely enough, I can even bring in an element of personal experience to this discussion. I've noticed that during lucid dreams, "dream people" aren't actually any harder to manipulate than other dream objects.

Dream objects can be manipulated because they aren't real, and dream people aren't any more real than other dream objects.

I agree that all things in shadow 'begin' unreal or the stuff of dreams.  But as soon as a being of 'Power' (Patter, Logrus, ...) interacts with them they get just a little 'Real'.  The more a thing is interacted with, the more 'Real' it becomes, and the harder it is to manipulate with 'Power'.

Shadow people are more than just "dream people".  Dream people are just psychological constructs and have no existence outside your own subconscious.  Shadow people are (normally) physical constructs given a consciousness, and have a will of there own.

Now, as implied in the rule book, shadows have a kind of an elastic property.  Whenever a shadow is acted upon (edited) it will attempt to resist the change.  And when it is no longer being acted upon it will attempt to return to its original shape.  The speed of which is greatly dependent on situation.

As I see it, a conscious entity has this to some degree as well.  Having knowledge of self it will attempt to use (subconsciously) any trace of power it has available to it to try and prevent any changes and if possible reverse them.  And simply by attempting to change them you have interacted with them giving them some modicum of power to resist you with.

Welcome to the RPGsite. You will find this secton to be the gentlest. :)

Well, we don't know what Brand did off camera.  He may well have.

As for Random's choice...this is Random were talking about ;)
But seriously, Mr. Roth is from Earth.  Corwin spent how many centuries there making everything he interacted with more real or 'stronger'.  And how may other elders spent some time there.  Pluss if memory serves he spend a little while living down the block from The Jewel Of Judgment.  The only way he could become a more real shadow person is to live in the castle itself.:)

I think I recall some reference to shadow people becoming stronger in other ways, not just more real, by spending time with Amberites, but I'm not to sure of this one.:hmm:

Oh and thanks for the welcome, warning, I ramble a bit at times.

That is an interesting idea, one that I'll have to think about some more.
