This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Pronunciation Of Terms

Mostly RZ's made-up terms can be figured out phonetically pretty easily. However, a few of them have given me and my various players over the years some pause as to how they should be pronounced. For instance:

spikard: SPIKE-ard? SPICK-ard? spi-CARD?

ty'iga: tie-EE-ga? tie-IGG-uh? TYIE-ga?

Jurt: jert? yert? joort? yoort?

Morganthë:  more-GAN-thuh? more-GAHN-thuh?  more-gan-THAY?

Just a few off the top of my head. I know there are others. I know how I tend to pronounce each of these, but I've heard these variations, and I'm interested to see if there's a consensus.

gabriel_ss4u

spikard: SPIKE-erd

ty'iga: tie-EE-ga or tee-EYEga (I use the 1st)

Jurt: jert

Morganthë: MORE-ganthuh

These are my thoughts on it.

I hope no-one pronounces Logrus as Laugrus - LOL!

I've just realized that I've always transposed the g and r in Logrus LOL

'LORE-gus' hmmm. I'll have to fix that.

Hmmm... sounds like a broken pattern idea of weaker other-shadow Logrus;
the Lorguss...
Or maybe a Dr. Who villain.

I noticed the minimal posts eeach, welcome to the board...

Thanks. LOL it's tough keeping up with where the Amber community congregates on the internet. I'm glad I found this place.

I've always said "Sooie," but I know that can't be right.

gabriel_ss4u

OK...
Are yu saying 'soowie', like yer callin a pig?

I pronounce it;
"Sue-huoy"  But at 1st I'd just call him "Sue-hey" or ' Sue-way'

I've always put an imaginary 'n' in there... so its kinda like 'Soon-he' or sometimes 'Soon-hewy'.  But I've also always known that it was horrible and wrong.

Volkazz

I've always heard it said Soo-hoy

Well, yes, but there's an "h" at the syllable break, and I put the accent on the second syllable -- "soo-WHEE," as it were.

Suhuy = Suh-hooey in my vocab.
