Not necessarily: sometimes they simply appear on forums with posts like "Are you sure about that? I mean, you sound like you believe it, but I just don't know..." One telltale sign is that they never comment on anything specific to the thread itself but may include the site or the topic in an effort to appear a bit more plausible.
Oh, and Googling for "By the way, nice domain name" turns up quite a few familiar messages...

I believe it. I've just never seen aspam before that basically said "you're a nice guy, and I like your name." Unless it had a link to naked chicks attached.
I wish that there was some way for "the government" to charge a flat fee of a hundredth or a thousandth of a cent per e-mail sent and give the money to a charity.
For the common internet consumer, it would cost practically zero for a year of e-mails, but for an e-mail spammer it could cost a great deal and force them to shut down. (We would still have a problem with message board posting spammers.)
I saw a news report on TV a while back where they interviewed a guy whose entire job was sending out marketing e-mails. He could do a million a day, or something like that, since he had collected so many e-mail address lists. Under my proposal of 1/1000 cents per e-mail, this spammer guy would have to pay $1000 per day to send out those e-mails. No way he could stay in business!

The thing is, how do you avoid excluding people who don't have or use a credit card? Pre-paid cards, maybe?
