You only have to click in the persons's screen name, over the avatar, and select the option from the cute little contextual menu. If that doesn't work, try going to the person's profile and find the "Send PM to [whoever it is]" button. And welcome.

Call me overly paranoid, but that message looks suspiciously like something a spambot might post... No offence meant of course, Pol, if you happen to be a real live human being.

I'm betting it's a spambot.

Wouldn't a spambot generally want to put some sort of spam in the message? "I like your site" hardly seems to qualify.

Not necessarily: sometimes they simply appear on forums with posts like "Are you sure about that? I mean, you sound like you believe it, but I just don't know..." One telltale sign is that they never comment on anything specific to the thread itself but may include the site or the topic in an effort to appear a bit more plausible.

Oh, and Googling for "By the way, nice domain name" turns up quite a few familiar messages...

I guess it's just one more slip in the internet's inevitable slide towards pointlessness.

9 out of 10 emails are spam, according to some statistics.

I believe it. I've just never seen  aspam before that basically said "you're a nice guy, and I like your name." Unless it had a link to naked chicks attached.

I wish that there was some way for "the government" to charge a flat fee of a hundredth or a thousandth of a cent per e-mail sent and give the money to a charity.

For the common internet consumer, it would cost practically zero for a year of e-mails, but for an e-mail spammer it could cost a great deal and force them to shut down. (We would still have a problem with message board posting spammers.)

I saw a news report on TV a while back where they interviewed a guy whose entire job was sending out marketing e-mails. He could do a million a day, or something like that, since he had collected so many e-mail address lists. Under my proposal of 1/1000 cents per e-mail, this spammer guy would have to pay $1000 per day to send out those e-mails. No way he could stay in business!

Microsoft and Yahoo! are studying a possible "e-stamp" for their email services.

The thing is, how do you avoid excluding people who don't have or use a credit card? Pre-paid cards, maybe?
