ADRP Printing History

I have two copies of ADRP and two copies of SK. Both are first printing, and I guess I never realized that there were more than one of each. Then I found a friend who had a third printing of the ADRP rulebook, which got me wondering if anyone knows anything about the printing history of the game.

What I know is this:

Amber Diceless RPG
First Printing = November 1991
Second Printing = April 1992
Third Printing = April 1993
Fourth Printing = September 1999 (from the PDF)

Shadow Knight
First Printing = December 1993
Second Printing = March 1995 (from the PDF)

Can anyone add to this?

EDIT: Added 2nd Printing info for ADRP.

I would love to see this, but honestly have given up on it.

What I would like to see in a 2E of ADRP is taking material from both ADRP and Shadow Knight and blending it together. Put all character generation stuff in one place, GM advice in another. Ideally, add in material from Jason's Rebma. Maybe split it into two books again, with the player info on one and GM info in the other.

Not gonna happen, but we can dream...

Honestly, Lords of Gossamer & Shadow is a better source book for Amber than Shadow Knight was, in my opinion. In some ways I feel like LoG&S is already what those two books would be like together...just, without the Amber part.

I wish the LoG&S guys would just be given the Amber licence proper. Even Zelazny himself as an author is fading into obscurity. I keep going into second hand bookstores asking about him and getting: "Who?"

Ah. But the "without the Amber part" is a big something.

I know the feeling, and share in your frustration. I think that the future of ADRP is bleak because (1) folks are forgetting about Roger Zelazny and by extension Amber, and (2) folks are forgetting about Erick Wujcik and by extension ADRP.

Diceless role playing may be alive with LoGaS and LoO, but ADRP is dying.

I'm not 100% certain that ADRP would be able to stay relevant even if someone acted on the Amber license, but it would stand a better chance than it is at the moment. There aren't many places even discussing Zelazny and/or Amber anymore.

It probably needs a movie to catch some social resonance.

There have been numerous rumours and treatments and the Syfy mini series that was canned so seems unlikely.

Zelazny has not done well in movie land. Damnation Ally was a travesty and Lord of Light was never made though it was used in the Argo CIA scam (and thus made it to the movies in the end)

I have always thought Amber was eminently filmable with it's popularist mix of modern characters set in a fantastic setting.

When I will the lottery maybe I will make it a project.

Particularly in this age of CGI and bluescreen. I think that one of the harder things to film would be shadow walking, but with the technology of taking actors and blending in backgrounds that shouldn't be a problem.

One neat thing about Amber as a movie is that if it did well there is a wealth of source material already written for it. None of this "we're looking for hack writers to come up with a plot" thing. :)

I think it has more to do with just how CGI heavy those element would make it. Could they make it, technology-wise? Absolutely. But post production would cost the GNP of several third world countries.

And there's the rub. The gamble itself is cost prohibitive. Studios don't sink money into a property with a marginal fan base.

Fact.

Um .. the cgi inviolved in shadow walking is nothing major at all.

A film like Pleasantville used more CGI.

Remember how shadow walking works I add a tree, a yellow flower, then round the corner the next tree is covered in Yellow flowers etc ... CGI is minimal , certainly less than the Battle of the Blackwater in GoT.

I think Amber might be a nice fit for HBO once GoT completes in 3 more years. Would fill a fantasy shaped hole in their schedule and like GoT its primarily a character driven peice. As I noted the characters are quite modern (well quite 1970s really but ...) so would be an easy port.

No, Jibba. Start thinking along the lines of hellriding, and any shadow close to the courts. That is a lot of green screen, and insane amounts of post. Even smaller stuff like adding a flower seems simple. But when it is happening constantly on a small level like that, it adds up. Sum total is what I'm getting at.

Like I said, absolutely doable with a big budget bank roll. Which you'll be hard pressed to acquire for a property without an enormous following.

Also, since we're talking GoT, they blew a ridiculous sum of money on that one sequence. A lion share of the season 2 budget IIRC.

DUDE! Nine Prince's! Shadow walking, to Arden, to Remba (still think it's not a big deal?), to Amber. The Ship battles, the flaming forests. The assault on Amber. It's nonstop action that will require insane amounts of cgi to do well. And that's just the first book
