This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm not that guy who's played Dungeons and Dragons since he was a little kid. I don't own all of the books, and in fact until last fall I hadn't even played D&D since I was a kid. (Shadowrun was my choice of game for the longest time.)

I'm also not a miniatures gamer-not through any design, or because of any like or dislike. We just started playing like I said, and our game hasn't reached that point.

When I got my copy of the Guardsmen set for the 2-D Heroes line I'd never heard of them, or considered the idea of paper cut out miniatures. But the PDF is well organized, and easy to read. It includes a section on the Guard, Constructing Paper Miniatures, and several pre-generated, ready to cut out miniatures!

The real bread and butter is the section on creating a generic "guard" for any campiagn setting. It's not overly long, but it covers the basics. The only real question I had was why is it they felt the need to make "Guardsmen" proficient with all Simple and Martial Weapons, as well all types of armor-but of course the answer is so that they'll be able to stop the PC's!

A good game master can easily modify this stock, and the stock characters included, for any campaign, at any level. (And luckily the inclusion of of pre-generated "guards" up to level 10, of various races, skills and classes.)

Instructions on how to organize, set up and use the miniatures are presented in a clear, concise and helpful fashion. I've never made paper miniatures like this before, but I am sure I could easily do so after reading this brief, and comprehensive primer.

The majority of this book is made up of pre-generated NPC's ranging from first to tenth level, that when printed out and properly utilized could save me a lot of time in my games!

All in all I'd rate this product as useful, easy to read and use. From a technical standpoint the PDF is easy for even a technologically challenged monkey like me, the art is of average but decent enough quality, and the product is easy to read.
