SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Why does this forum still exist?

Nobody replies to games that get posted here and hardly anyone posts games in the first place. Why don't you archive it or delete it?

Banjo Destructo

Legacy? Habit? Someone could start a new game with other poeple if they wanted?

zircher

Well, the short answer for me is that I read all the posts, but these are not the games I am interested in.  It would be kind of weird to reply to a post with 'not interested'.

Nothing is perfect but if you really don't like it here, why don't you leave rather than post negative antagonistic posts??? If you were not here you would not care if the forum continues on.

Domina

Weird, I don't remember saying anything about whether I like this forum. I asked a question. Nothing else.

And you got some answers. Be an asshole if you like. Take care.

Hope the Admin remembers how to use the BANNED button.

Firstly, welcome to the site! Always great to get some new blood and such. We may be a contentious group, but that and the relatively loose/free speech moderation practices are a big part of why this is one of the best places you'll probably find out there.

Speaking of which, while doing something like advocating literal neo-nazi beliefs, or loudly claiming that racial intermixing is bad with ALL CAPS and various racial and other epithets thrown in there at other posters, will prospectively get somebody banned here...

I'm pretty darn sure, 100%, that in this case it's just a bit of crude language being used. Which I myself would perhaps have been banned for once or twice if it were on the list, so to speak. You can be upset or hostile or outright political (in the political subforum) in your postings so long as you obey the base rules of the site. Conveniently, those are pretty much always at the top of the page.  ;D

I understand foul language.  I was in the Army for two decades.
I can understand political speech and active debate.  That is fine.

But the poster called another member a name that could have been offensive.

That was the point of my post.  But When in Rome.   Ride a chariot.

I finally just added her to my Ignore list. Not really 100% satisfying because it does not remove her content from my feed, which I what I would prefer, but just masks it. I still see that she made a post, but I have to click on it to actually see what pointless rude and insulting troll comment she has made. Which I have been able to resist so far! So I guess its ok.

Fair enough, something to be said for civil discourse, though I do myself prefer a looser moderation hand most the time, hence part of why I'm here. Thank you for your service, incidentally.

Possibly may want to stay off the political subforum if you're worried about flame wars and insulting posts/terms if that kind of thing bothers you, as a heads-up. Folks are called things there, a fair bit, and ad hominem attacks won't get you banned more generally. (Though elsewhere someone starting that kind of thing could get a thread derailment warning and/or threadban, depending on how far afield things go. Likewise if things get too far afield from topic in a politics thread the thread can wind up closed or related things may come into play.)

In general, to be bannable as an insult something would have to be directly tied to hardcore beliefs on the part of the user about the innate inferiority or whatnot of a group. (Last I saw a similar ban, it was for someone insulting female members of the armed forces for being allegedly "loose" and somehow despite their service to our nation, of an inferior gender or something, and also sullying American blood with racial intermixing, which in turn segued into some pretty hardcore messed up racist ideology. Like, on the whole, a very sad and distorted outlook for this person, that did not at all recognize reality. I sort of wish I had a better example to help draw lines, but that's the only ban of that sort I've personally seen handed out.) All bans and threadbans are by default permanent here, too.

I guess for unwritten rules, if it's illegal IRL, or cyberstalking with the intention of doxxing and/or malicious and illegal activity, I've heard it's rightly not allowed here. Looking through the forum or asking other forumites would probably tell one a bit more, but that's most of what I've got for major things not explicitly posted at the top. Other folks can chime in if they know all that better.

Again, welcome to the forum, and also cool play by post scenario. I guess to bring things back to what is relevant to this thread's topic. (I don't have the aforementioned books, personally, though at a glance they seem interesting and I do like that edition. I have the 3.5 SRD and have used that before, but I also don't plan on supporting WotC with further purchases after what they tried to do to both that and the OGL.)

Also unrelatedly, cool website, squirewaldo.

I prefer civil discourse but with someone like whats-her-face that is just no possible. I have not seen a single post or comment from her that was not designed, IMHO, to elicit a negative response. That's called being a troll, and I try not to feed the trolls. I prefer blocking them. As for looser moderation, I too suspect I am still here because of that so as a beneficiary I cannot complain!

Thanks for the kind comment!

I think this answer could be surprisingly insightful, now that I've considered what outcomes would match with that hypothesis. Upon looking into it, a fair number of threads elsewhere with multiple pages of replies have fewer views than even threads here in this subforum with no responses. I think a lot of people may do what zircher does, or just enjoy checking on the threads or watching the few that get hits develop.

I guess also one has to factor in the threads that are less play-by-post and more recruitment-oriented too. *shrug*

Jesus you guys are softer than the kids I went to high school with. Fucking sad.
