Title: The One Ring
Post by: Friar Tuck on November 21, 2012, 08:53:03 AM
I'm planning to run the introductory level Middle Earth scenario from The One Ring ruleset, entitled "The Marsh Bell".

My style of play will be mature - that is, it'll be (I hope) well written and engaging enough to make characters feel they're immersed in Middle Earth when they're reading it, and their posts will reflect that.

Functionally, I'll be able to post at least every day as a norm barring holidays, sometimes maybe more. I'd expect at least the same level of commitment from characters - yes, even when things aren't going so well for them. Of course what this means is the game will be a genuinely long-term commitment. A tough ask of most people I realise, but hopefully for those that can stay the course it'll be very rewarding.

Please post here if you're interested :)

Spoiler
As a suggestion, I would grab a copy of the Mewlips poem by JRR Tolkien as it is what Marsh Bell is based on. It is also an in-setting poem (an old Hobbit poem) and I used it in game. When the PCs were entering the ruins I had them make a Song roll (Hobbit's treated it as Favoured) to recall the poem. When it was read out, it added a strong, authentic, creepy atmosphere.

FWIW I recommend Tales from Wilderland too. It's an excellent series of adventures that sound like they will match your approach well, and should lead nicely into the Darkening of Mirkwood campaign.

Thanks Skywalker, really nice tip about the poem.

I have the scenario booklet on my shopping list, I've heard it's another excellent addition to what is already a great system.

It is the best collection of Lord of the Rings adventures out there. Lots of variety and a good focus on conflict other than combat (though the combat is epic and exciting).

The Laketown Sourcebook is pretty stellar too, depsite its low page count. I can't wait for the news regarding Heart of the Wild and Darkening of Mirkwood.
