This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Okay, let's knock the dust off this place.

I'll run something. All I'm going to specify is the systems available and a couple of ground rules, its up to you mongrels to sort out whatcha prefer.

AD&D
D&D 3.0 (none of the 3.5 stuff)
LBB Traveller
GURPS 3rd (any genre you prefer, even Traveller or fantasy or whatnot. Modern. Star Trek. What-have-you.)

If we can get 2 or 3 (or more if yer feeling froggy) of you folks to agree on anything, we'll proceed from there.

Requirements:

*Make yer own character based on whatever guidelines I give out.
*Post at least 3 times a week (this is concrete - anything less and it tends to... trail... offfff.........) And yes, the GM will abide by that rule as well. Honest.

Offer is open until a) we have at least two people who can agree with each other as to what they want or b) Friday at 5 pm CST.

Carry on!

i'm in!

any of the games mentioned is cool.  order of preference:

1.  LBB trav
2.  d&d 3.0 (what a novelty!  and i can dust off my 3.0 class books!)
3.  ad&d (i've been in a fantasy mood.  only reason 3.0 gets the nod, faster advancement)
4.  gurps 3 (i've got a bunch of books, but never run it, and only played a few times)

requirements are cool by me.  i'm a bit of a 'net ho anyway

I don't have LBB Trav and have never played it, so if that's everyone's choice, I'll defer.

Otherwise, I have some GURPS 3rd, but just core and a couple of fantasy supplements.  I don't know if that matters.  I've never played, but as I've said (both here and on //www.d20haven.com), I've always wanted to play.

I've been itching to get back into an AD&D game, but I'd have to re familiarize myself (which should take about 2 minutes).

So, I guess my order would be
AD&D
D&D 3rd
GURPS 3rd

Oh, and I've not played in a PbP...if you don't want a newbie....

Newbies are fine - its really not hard at all. I give you the situation, you respond, conflicts resolved, repeat. Much like face-to-face gaming, but slower. As to rule-set, that's up to you two (so far) to has out amongst yourselves. :)

I threw AD&D in there because I bought a gently used PHB and DMG at my local game store recently (my originals are eroded and sitting on a friend's shelf 1,000 miles from here) and have been re-reading them lately. I've played and written for 3.0 since it came out (literally, picked up the books a few weeks beofre GenCon 2001) and know LBB like the back of my hand (first true love). GURPS - has been my gaming group's system of choice since about 1988, however. So its all good.

i'm comfortable with james' order.  so unless anyone else chimes in, just let me know the character gen info and what system.

Dr Rotwang!

Traveller, bitches.

Sorry!  Sorry.  I...just...got...excited.

Traveller, please, gentle friends?

2-1 Traveller/AD&D so far. I'll keep it open until Friday night and then we'll see where we stand.

James: Making a Traveller character takes about 1 minute, using any of several decent on-line generators. Dosn't take much longer than that the old-fashioned way, for that matter, so if it ends up being Traveller, please feel free to stick with us. I'm sure we've got plenty of experience to guide you through.

i'm easy.

So let me get this straight...Doc...

I can not play.  Or I can play a game I don't know at all, but with the coolest guy you know...

Thanks for the choice, bastard.

Of course I'll try anything. Contrary to popular belief about the rif-raf D&D players, I'll open to trying something new (to me).

Are there any basic primers for Traveller, or am I going to have to go find me a book?

In general, roll 8 or higher on 2d6, adding an applicable skill level as a modifer, or subtracting a -5 penalty* if you lack an applicable skill.

The rule above is actually drawn specifically from the combat rules, but I always used it as a general rule for virtually all skill tests.  Honestly, classic Traveller is that simple.

(*To be specific, in combat, subtract -5 from your roll to attack if you're unskilled in a weapon, but only -3 if you're strictly defending with an untrained weapon.)

By the way, I feel a bit sheepish after my failed attempt at my last PbP, but count me in for Traveller.  I have a character from yet another failed PbP game that I'd like to play. :deflated:

Will this count towards my RPG geek street cred - that I played in a Traveller - even it's it's PbP?

LBB trav?  absolutely!  :D

Since its looking more like we've got as many as we're going to get, and Traveller seems to be the winner, go ahead and make a character using CT rules (but not High Guard or Mercenary, not this time out - sorry). Someone be kind enough to provide a link to their favorite on-line generator for James, please.

A couple of questions:

Do you mind the adventure not being set in the Spinward Marches?
Do you mind if its set on a planet and will likely not involve space at all (at least until the actual "adventure" is wrapped up)?
Do any of you read SJ Games' JTAS website?

(I intend to run an adventure I wrote many moons ago for T20 to get the ball rolling, and if it is successful and you want to continue I have others I can use as well, assuming you haven't read them already.)

Yes, please.

And hey, guys, while we're at it.  It's Jim. I use James J Skach for "official things" and guessed there would be too many Jim's on the site so I'd use my full official name...the irony is funny if it weren't so sad. Using Jim, besides being more comfortable for most, doesn't have all those apostrophe s problems that crop up with James.

Being unfamiliar with the system, ethos, settings, etc....

No, No, and No.

I just need to know what the setting, universe is like - ya know, the thumbnail sketch of Greyhawk, as it were.
