Title: (Interest) Exalted - Search for Truth
Post by: Snowman0147 on October 19, 2015, 11:19:57 pm
For those that follow the What the Hell thread about Exalted 3rd edition you know what this is about.  I am going to prove a point that you can have a exalted game without the clunky rules that serves to bog down the game.  Secondly this is a chance to test out my system that is design to be simple, quick, and allow lots of choices without requiring a rules lawyer to figure it out.  Other words it is straight to the point while diverse in character options.

What does my system offer you may ask?  It is at first glance it appears to be a generic percentage dice game.  The killer app are the assets.  Assets are few in number, but provide a wealth of options through four mechanics.  Bypass which allows you to automatically succeed in the roll.  Effects which allows you to use powers suitable of that asset.  Restore which allows you to regain heroic points faster in rest.  Finally ranks which improves the the other three mechanics.

Point is this system is my weapon of choice to prove my point.

Like I said, I'm down for it. Although I don't think very highly of percentage systems.

Reason I did that was to be simple.  I tried to make a d20 version, but I kept fucking that up.

Still I am trying to figure out exalted things so I need input.  You want caste to be attributes?  Go with normal attributes?  Reason why is that there is no skills in my game so your just rolling attributes.

While your at it can you answer these questions?

What exalted are you?  I assuming solar, but you can be others.  Terrestrial, siderials, lunars, and abyssals are fine by me.

What caste are you going with?

What concept are you going with?

Name me three backgrounds you want.

Backgrounds?

Soldier of the Realm, Scholar and Mad Magitecher? That sort of thing?

I was going for merits that for some reason 2nd edition devs called backgrounds.  Such things as manse, followers, allies, influence, familiars, resources, relics, and you get the drill.

Gotcha, wasn't sure of the context.

Yeah I don't know why they call it backgrounds so sorry for the confusion.

In that case: Artifact (Dire Lance), Resources (IDK how you want to rate that) and something something think of it later.

I would give dire lance a fancy name.  I mean it is a artifact.  Also how are you getting money and yes it needs a name.

And I'm back after getting the crap kicked out of me by a cold.

Anyway, I'd like to change the Dire Lance to a Grand Daiklave, since my love of massively oversized swords is calling to me.  And I kind of like the fact that this guy doesn't know it's actual name.  It called to him, and he found it, but there's script adorning the blade that he can't read, so he just calls it the Slayer and leaves it at that, although he does want to know it's name and history.

As far as how he came by his Resources, in his mortal days, and after he Exalted for that matter, he was the head of a band of raiders.  After he exalted they became wildly more successful, but he became reckless and decided they were going to hit a Realm caravan bring wealth to the Blessed Isle from the Threshold.  While he and his band pulled it off, it drew exactly the wrong sort of attention, and a punitive Hunt was sent after them, destroying the band and kicking his ass.

Which leads to the third background, a Clockwork arm. He lost one of his during the battle with the Wild Hunt, and was given a replacement by a celestial figure he suspects is Sunipa although he's unsure in exchange for a massive favor to be repayed at a later date.

And I just realized I made the main character from Berserk.  Shit.

He is so Berserk.  Now the two artifacts are okay, but let's be honest here.  With the bandit band your not earning income and it isn't like the money you took will last for long.  Can I suggest a guide, or ally instead (aka the one that fix your arm)?

Ally it is.

To be fair, Berserk is fucking awesome, and not really darker than a lot of Exalted, so I'm ok with this.

Well if I wanted to go dark I would go abyssal.  Still Berserk is really heroic given the setting he is in.

Now I need caste and concept.

Caste is easy. Dawn.  Concept...brash warrior for hire is what first comes to mind.

Or monster hunter. Really depends on how you want to approach things.
Title: (Interest) Exalted - Search for Truth
Post by: Snowman0147 on October 23, 2015, 12:36:06 pm
Fair enough.  So what we got is...

Brash Warrior for Hire x1
Dawn x1
Slayer x1
Clockwork Arm x1
And ??? (don't know if your ally is a god, lunar, or sidereal.  I am bad with names, but you said celestial.)

Take not of the x1.  That is your rank.

Now roll 35 plus 2d10.  This is for your attributes which you got six of them.  Might, endurance, agility, wit, resolve, and intelligence.

2d10 plus 35? You have any issue if I use Invisible Castle? It's my go to.

And the Ally is Sunipa, the Eastern War God. I think she's a Celetial god, but I'm not sure.

Go ahead, but last I check invisible castle didn't load for me.

The option would be good. I've honestly just heen swamped with work. I've only had 4 days of the last two months.

44, 45, 40, 52, 44 and 55.

Not sure if I like that particular dice roller as I can't do them all at once and can't record the results.  If anyone has an alternative, I'd welcome it.

Did you fill the first box with a six?  It would rolled six percentage dice.

As for every thing else?  Sorry about that, but I don't know any other dice roller.

You can copy and paste the results in the thread.  So where are you putting those points at?

Might 55, endurance 45, agility 44, wit 40, resolve 52, and intelligence 44.

This is assuming two things, that Resolve represents strength of will, and that not everything is tied to Agility like Dex was. Always hated that.
Title: (Interest) Exalted - Search for Truth
Post by: Snowman0147 on October 29, 2015, 04:57:48 pm
Pretty much.  Might and intellect are power attributes.  Agility and wit are finesse attributes.  Endurance and resolve are resilience attributes.

I try to balance out the attributes.  Endurance handles wound points (which you have four).  Resolve determines spirit points (which you have five).  Since your starting with essence two your stealth motes are nine while your flashy anima motes are twenty-one.  Those are your three hit points.

There is a reason for three hit points.  Your motes are energy pool and buffer health.  Once motes reaches zero the other two hit points are finally expose.  If wound (physical), spirit (spiritual/mental), or both reach zero your character is lost.  Thankfully traits (such as Ox-Body) can increase those two hit points.

Take note that wound and spirit take longer to regain points.  One point per day in fact.  It can shot up to two points while under care.  Resting for the day adds another point as well.  So doing nothing can heal two points while under care and resting can regain three points per day.  Of course exalted charms and magic can do better than this.

Hero points (in this case motes) are faster to regenerate.  One hour of rest per point.  Special items, places, and assets can speed it up.  Assets at rank zero lets you recover one mote per two hours as long as your doing the activity that fits with the asset.  The asset allows a new way to recover motes at that point.  At rank one the asset recovery rate is the same as resting.  Now at rank two you regain two motes per hour instead of one.

A example would be you improve slayer to rank three.  Your exalted practices with the sword for three hours.  So your character regains nine motes.

With me so far?

Reckon I've got it.

Now with hit points done we can focus on other stats.  Movement is the worst of might and agility so that is a four.  Initiative is agility plus wit so that is eight.  Limit is how many items you can carry which is worst of might and endurance so that is a four.

By the I am using attribute modifier.  The modifier is the ten digit number of the attribute.

Personality is the worst of intellect and wit so again we are looking at four.  Finally you get points which is the worst of intellect and resolve.  Basically all the knowledge you learn and retain in your life.  This case you got four points.

You can spend them on improving ranks, buying new assets at rank zero, ten points to use on attributes, and traits.  Traits such as ox-body, sorcery, necromancery, three instant casting spells, and you get the drift.

So did you decide what to do with your four points?

Ox Body, definitely. But I'm torn between other options.

Tell me about how you want to run Necromancy.
Title: (Interest) Exalted - Search for Truth

Sorcery comes in two forms.  Rituals and rotes.  Rituals have no cost other than time to gather surrounding motes that is needed to cast the spell.  They tend to have longer effects.  Rotes are instant casting and consume your motes.  Their effects only last a mere moment if only that.

Sorcery comes in three levels.  Terrestrial, celestial, and solar.  Clearly only solars can get up to solar level magic.

So basiclly it is similar to 3rd edition.

Now necromancery follows the same rules, but it is opposite.  It goes with shadowlands, labyrinth, and oblivion levels with only abyssals having access to oblivion level.  Mainly while sorcery creates necromancery destroys.

Clearly you can only get the lowest level magic at the start.

How many points is that going to cost me?
Title: (Interest) Exalted - Search for Truth
Post by: Snowman0147 on October 31, 2015, 07:50:16 pm
Oh yeah I made a mistake.  Stealth motes for solars and abyssals are essence times four so you have 8 motes there.  Anima motes are essence times ten so that is 20 for you.

You can buy ox-body up to your essence.  So if you buy it twice you get x3 wounds.  Right now we look at wound 4 for you, but with your purchase you bump it up to 8.  For spirit the trait to increase that is Iron Will.

Also I forgot this.  You get a free trait called Scale 1.  It allows a exalted to be a threat to a group of mortals.  Enemies who are at scale one deal less damage and take more damage.  Enemies higher than scale one take less damage from you and deal out more damage.  Essence can increase scale at certain points.  Only solars and abyssals get to reach scale three.  Dragon blooded are stuck at scale one.

Only one point for just the ability to do rituals.  You have to earn rotes in game.  You can spend another point to get three rotes if you want, but I wouldn't suggest it.  Also who would agree to teach you necromancery?

Got a question.  Would you rather just combine motes together with non-animus uses cost more, or go with the divide?  I am talking +1 more so nothing that bad.  It could make it simpler with only three hit points to work with instead of four.
