This thread is intended for current and interested players of the PbP EC game previously over at EN World.
Those of you coming over from Dr Rotwang's blog --roll call!
EDIT: Game is officially full. Just waiting for the long tail of players to wind its way across the internet and settle here.
Nothing to see here just testing out the forums.. more info coming.

I'd like to cap the game at 6 so we don't get tooo unwieldy.
I know nothing of the EN World game, but EC is cool. :)
Rock and Roll, Timbo!
I'll email Rondo, make sure he knows about the venue change. Should we go ahead and post our characters to this thread as well?
Reporting for duty. I'll have a character done later today.

Description:
In the olden days of yore, Young Yuri Von Richthofen grew up in the shadow of his father, the world renowned cave primitive fighter ace. Unable to follow his father into the world of aerobatics due to a freak accident during a game of bloody knuckles, Yuri instead went into the field of mad science. After years of laborious study and grave robbing, Yuri succesfully built his creature. Unfortunately, for Yuri, the creature soon escaped and fled into the frozen wilderness of northern Vanth.
Not too long ago, a research expedition uncovered the frozen creature locked in the polar ice. After thawing out, Creature thanked the scientists and went on his way. After a misunderstanding with the God City Police Department, Creature finds himself nicely equipped for a life of adventure.
I've got a heromachine portrait done up, but when I post the link it's not loading correctly. If you PM me your email address, I'll email you a copy Timbo.
Oh yeah, not that I'm whining, but wouldn't scientific realism dictate that the stronger you are the better chance you have of resisting damage? Instead the opposite is true, with a bonus for weaklings and penalty for he-men. Ok, I am whining, but feel no need to listen to me :)
This should be lots of fun!

Your hit points should be 16 at Level 1. So when the weaklings punch you you can survive a bit longer.
My theory? It's King of the Mountain rules: you're the toughest, so everyone hits you harder trying to prove something.
Ahah, thanks for catching my mistake on the hitpoints, I'll update my dude accordingly.
Quote from: Stuart;233424How many people do you have now? Are you looking for more people? :)
Hey Stuart, I've been sort of the game recruiter so I'll answer. We have 4 confirmed and 2 tentative. Maybe someone flakes out, or Timbo decides to add a 7th....?
I'll port my char sheet over this afternoon. My Cave Wooky can totally beat the Frankenstein at arm-wrestling, but will totally lose the World's Strongest Monster competition due to his inability to Labor.
Figured out I was supposed to fold "Interactions" into my Leadership traits. Wow that pushed seduce down to -31% ! My guy is not what one would call "a ladies man" :)
I'm here. Are we picking up where we were, or starting over just a bit? My character can be viewed over at //www.rondo-encountercritical.blogspot.com
So, we have V.R.s Creature, Tic Tac, Buck and that makes 3. Three more of us or so, and we should be ready to go. Man, Buck has got some monster buddies! I'm starting to feel like Han Solo in this setup! ;)
Git on in here, Stuart...watchoo gonna play?
//www.rondo-encountercritical.blogspot.com
Holy cow, that all happened fast!
Coffee here, a/k/a Will. I'll get my character together tonight. I'm really looking forward to this!
Welcome Coffee Will (that's a stat isn't it?)...it's gonna be a blast. Roll up yo' funky self...see what we add another mutato to this whacky bunch!
Quote from: Rondo;233455Git on in here, Stuart...watchoo gonna play?

Wicked. I'll get something rolled up tonight. Probably a Robodroid.
Holy Carp!
So what is our head count-I'm still trying to put some real names with board names. Stuart youre more than welcome, since anyone who can recognize the awsometasity of EC can game with me any time.
I will just continue with the game as is, in the village of Rowrshyakk. The game is more a less a bit of a dungeon crawl/exploration type thingee, a bit in the spirit of the old Night Below adventure...sort of.
Ive also settled on an adventure title, been trying to find one that strikes the right balance of cheese/old school patishe/dont-want-to-give-anything-away factor.
So the title to our adventure is:
The Temple of Zarn
Wherein the PCs travel to the Forbidden Wastes, encounter monsters, and learn important life lessons about themselves
:)
Got us at 6 confirmed:
Edsan (but where is he? scarce the last couple days. i PM'd him this AM)
Rondo
Wulfgar
Coffee
Stuart
& myself
1 tentative:
Dr Rotwang (i'll email him this afternoon if he doesn't turn up)
Also, for the sake of my sanity, please either link your PC sheet here, post it in this thread or PM it to me.
In addition 50 xp to anyone providing a Hero Machine portrait of your character or a cool EC style image( ala Rondo's Buck Pulsar). Stock images without flair will receive reduced xp depending on the JM's mood....
And Stuart makes 7 correct?
Speaking of Stuart- Char gen is by the rules, you may choose your race. No were creatures or monsters. Races from Asteroid 1618 are allowed. I will be using the scare rules from Asteroid 1618. Please take max hp at first level.
Once we get rolling I'm flexible on posting schedule. Daily on Monday -Friday would be ideal, but I know thats not always feasible.
I await to see the party.
Quote from: Timbo;233498And Stuart makes 7 correct?
Yeah, can't seem to count today, even using all seben fingers.
Thrazar: you just gonna back this thing up and start from the beginning? I'm cool with that...other than Cave Tic Tac making a dash for the crowd, and Buck taking a stride towards the skirt, not much has happened yet anyway.

TicTac Rerun is an unusually clever and cunning Cave Wooky who enjoys fighting and grooming his luxurious moustache and mane. He is nicknamed No Lice because his cranial feelers constantly comb through his hair when not reading minds or broadcasting good vibes, leaving his hair glossy and stylish.

I'm cracking up at how similar our PCs turned out Wulfgar -- cranial feelers, black hole metal club, bulletproof vest & shield. Could this be the EC Warrior equivalent of the bog standard D&D fighter with chainmail, shield & longsword?
Not to mention both are cave primitives, and we both chickened out at the prospect of rolling again on the mutation table after getting our cranial feelers. Brothers-in-arms we are indeed!

Your first EC PC and you managed to resist rolling on the mutation table? You're made from sterner stuff than I!

Just checking in -- been away from my computer a lot this weekend.
I'd still like to play a RoboDroid (Pioneer) if I could. Doc Rotwang would love to be the Warlock. :D
I posted a picture of my character over on the Yahoo group. Look for the photo album labeled More Fan Art -- should be the only one there.

Things are looking good. Thanks for the occasional run-down of the party's current line-up there, Max...making this a lot easier to figure out. I never care for money when I start out a character, which is a good thing. Compared to most of you guys, I didn't roll crap or somethin'! Background:
Buck is your typical vain Flash Gordon kind of guy. He comes from a distant planet that's much like 1930's earth, where he was a pretty good athlete and a bit of a rich boy. His father sent him to a prestigious private school where he studied astronomy and the new experiments in space travel. A series of strange expeditions led to his becoming stranded in Vanth. He sports the uniform from when he enlisted in the "Galaxy Patrol" back on his planet.
Okay, here's the Heromachine pic for my character.
He's a Robodroid Cowboy.
Heromachine didn't have a lot of options for Robots, so I might see if I can draw something a bit better myself.
Triple shite on a stick!
Well in case you have not heard my PC has given up the ghost, gone to meet its maker, is pushing up daises...in a word, passed on.
Check by last blog post where I try to ellucidate people about the situation. I don't know how long it will take to fix, if I can afford the repair on the 1st place and then how long till I get the net working in the new flat I'm living in. We where trying to solve the internet connection problem when the whole thing went into "permanent shutdown mode".
This means the brave gang will have to start without Gorgo, unless the esteemed Journey Master wishes to run him as a retainer of sorts until the tech-priests at the local store manage to ressurect the machine-spirit that allows me to connect to the Interne and have a damn social life in the first place!
If I sound pissed it's because I am...quite! God, sometimes I hate my life; everytime I solve a problem another one comes along. My mother is a slightly religious person and she's been saying for years that our family is cursed. I don't believe any of that bull but the propension me and my family members have for having bad incidentes happen at the worst possible time does make me wonder.
Case in point? There was a PC repair shop, that does diagnosis and calculates repair costs for free, less than 5 minutes away from the place I was living before. My new apartement is miles away from anything even resembling a PC store and the fucking machine died on me about 10 minutes after I had set it up there. (rimshot! ta-dum-tsk!)
Enough moaning! I'm off. Have fun amigos!
Bum deal man, but we can ALL relate to "the curse"! Well, speaking for myself anyhow. Soon as your up and running, jump on in here...getting screwed is my middle name as well...i think it's just life these days...I've come so close to getting a "born to lose" tattoo when I'm getting worked on...a jillion times it's crossed my mind..get 'er fixed and get in here...we need ya!
Sorry to be away so long things been busy. Im sorry we lost Edsan..good luck with the computer, if you feel inclined later and the games still going you are more then welcome to be inserted into the mix later.
So unless my eyeballs deceive we are awaiting Dr Rotwang? Im going to try to hand copy these to a more traditional "official" character sheet so all the skills and such are easier for me to see.
I'll check back tomorrow!
Ok yea- I touched on this with the previous grouping, but I'll through it out for everyones benefit.... what is everyones opinion about dice rolling? The choices are a) honor system with you all rolling or b) I the JM make the rolls so you can each concentrate on dynamic action. The third option of using an online roller is a bit unwieldy I think.
Vote now!

The online dice rollers sound interesting -- 'cause I've never used them before. ;)
I'm easy going about how you want to handle the rolls though.
I'm fine with honor system or JM handling all the rolls. I agree that servers are unwieldy (and clog up your inbox from my experience).
My vote is for keeping this thing as "authentic" table-top as possible. I say honor system for our rolls. I really would like to have dice in front of me. Second vote would be for you to do the rolling. I'm not diggin' the online dice roller. It slows things down, it's ugly and I think it's impersonal and makes the game more of a bore and a chore.
Anyway, that's my two cents, but as I've said: Just happy to play so I'll go with what everyone else wants!
Sorry not to reply sooner -- I'm supposed to be getting email notices whenever someone replies to this thread but it's not been reliable. I'll get into the habit of checking directly.
I'm fine with honor system or JM rolls. From what I know of everyone here this group understands the fun to be had when things go badly!
Timbo I'm not sure about the good Dr Rotwang. I've let him know about the game, sent him a link to this thread, and so far not a peep. Perhaps we should start now, and if you're willing you can introduce stragglers down the line.
You answered my unasked question about the Doctor.
Ok give me a bit and I'll have a new thread up by tomorrow.
We will do th honor system for rolls, just place your results in your posts. I'll probably ask for saving throws in combat while you do your attacks to save time. I'll cover this more in detail later.
Oh yes, and 50 xp to everyone for their pics!
Sounds good, guys, I'm ready to go...anyone out of the loop for now, can catch up. Let's do it.
Last time I looked, the game was full. Dangit!
EDIT: In other words, I saw "Game Officially Full" the other day so I just didn't say anything. If I'd known you guys were waiting on me...
Sorry, guys, I guess I shoulda read the thread instead of just assuming. I made an ass out of ume!

Ha! Yea, let's get in there and start whupin' on some Frankenhobbling ass! Man, what a site: a party of 6 or 7 EC characters just stompin' some poor 1/2 Cave Mutant Wookie Hobbling-bot into the dirt! HA!!!:)
Very cool! I'm looking forward to this. :)

You said a mouthful, Rondo.
What's tha scenario, Timbo? We all dressed up 'n' ready to go, chochacho.
Well, Max: I say one more day and then YOU and I start running through "The Scourge of the Werewolf Weasels"..whaddya say? I'll run it right here by post! Anybody else want in?
I'm in.
Alrighto...Good deal, Andrew....how 'bout it Max? Couple more days to see what happens, then go at it? That makes a party of two so far if you accept.
Am I in? Does Rondo like Devo?
Rotwang...yer in! If you want to be....I'm just sayin' if nothing gets rolling here pretty quick on this thing.....while were all still in contact, i wanna do something, hell, I'll run it!
Not only do I like DEVO, I AM Devo! Oh wait a minute, "We're All Devo!"
So far the count is: Dr. Rotwang, Wulfgar and Max, I betcha, once he gets a chance to see this....that's a party of 3!
Sorry, Andrew: i realized I pasted in the wrong name when I was talkin' to Wulfgar! My apologies...it's been a long day, BUT the offer still stands: if this thing don't take off, want me to run somethin? I don't know what's going on here...i'm going to assume we're still playing, as originally, I just want a back-up plan in case this all goes south. I wanna play!
Do I wanna tangle with the Werewolf Weasels? It's on like Lon Chaney, junior. And that's the straight stoat.
But, I've been brainstorming scenarios m'self all morning, so if y'all are willing to give a verrry rusty JM a shot I could take a turn at running things.
Maybe do a tag-team thing, so anybody who wants to play or run gets a shot? That might help keep things fresh and dynamic.
Hey, Max I'm totally down with you doing ALL the GMin' if you wanna! That's fine with me...or tag team..however....I just wanna play....that would give me a chance to play since i've ONLY Gm'd with EC.
I just want to get something rolling before the next decade kicks in! :)
I'm on day 9 of my adventures in tech-support hell with Bell Canada / Sympatico. I've got my DSL working today with sub dial-up connection speeds. Woo-Hoo! Good to see I didn't keep everyone waiting. :D
Welcome back, Stuart---stick around, we'll get something rolling here pretty quick:)
OK, dudes....
Sorry Timbo, it's a mutiny. You're welcome to roll up a PC whenever you turn up again. Unless anyone objects, I'll take over as JM.
I'll start a new thread this evening. I'd like to try this semi-sandbox -- I'll PM each of you with some rumors and such and let your interaction determine what happens next. Sort of a sandbox with a few cat turds mixed in...
I love it! Count me in. You want new PCs, or do we use the old ones? We get to do our own dice rolls at least in part?:)
New thread is posted. Just PbP and ruleset notes so far. I plan to kick things off tomorrow night for reals -- I'll be PMing the (re)confirmed players a plot hook or two, and off we'll go.
As it stands, I believe the Dr. Rotwang, Rondo, Stuart and Wulfgar are still on board. Waiting to hear from Coffee, and will try to accomodate Edsan when his computer troubles are passed.
Hey, how do ya' find the new thread on this thing? I'm lost.
I'm still in -- although my posting rate on the rest of theRPGsite is very reduced now, and probably will remain that way for some time to come.
Found the new thread over here:
http://www.therpgsite.com/showthread.php?t=11606
The Robodroid Cowboy is out on the range until things kick-off! :D
Quote from: Rondo;237876Hey, how do ya' find the new thread on this thing? I'm lost.
Oh Rondo. Truly a man out of time, adrift in the fabulous high-tech world of yesterday's tomorrow...;)
Quote from: Stuart;237879I'm still in -- although my posting rate on the rest of theRPGsite is very reduced now, and probably will remain that way for some time to come.
Thanks for checking in Stuart, and showing Brother Rondo the way. 1-2 posts a day's all I'm really looking for -- will that work for you?
You're clearly a veteran in these parts -- is there a way to set up an RSS feed for a single thread? The subscribe feature's fine and all but I've noticed it won't send an email notification of every post.
Man outta time still ain't figgerin' it out...hey, what year is it? Oh, crap my Gary Numan disc just ended....be right back.....:)
Enter...QUAZARN!
Yeah, I'm here.
I used to get email alerts when this thread was updated, but that seems to have ceased.
Thanks, Max for letting me know!
Quote from: Coffee;238078I used to get email alerts when this thread was updated, but that seems to have ceased.
From what I can tell you have to visit the thread in order for the subscription cookie to reset which, honestly, is a bit wonky. Unless Stuart knows how to set an RSS feed for a single thread the best bet is to visit the site every so often.
QuoteThanks, Max for letting me know!
Glad to have you, Coffee.
Wooo wooo wwooo!...the Doctor and Coffee! Now we gots a party
Party's started, boyo. Get y'self to the Sandbox and mingle!
This morning, I received the email notification that there were new messages here.
It was date/time stamped Thursday, Aug 21, 2:03 am.
In other words, Yahoo mail is playing silly buggers again.
I'm just going to mosey over to the sandbox and check in on a daily basis, and hang the email notification.
Is this game open to new players?
Not at the moment, Fable. I've got 5 people committed, and a sixth on the injured reserve list till he can get back online. (Plus at some point the original JM may turn up wondering who swiped his game.)
But...I'll be sure and drop you a line if space opens up, or if I decide to break things into smaller groups.
OK, thanks.
I'M BACK.
PC working. Internet connection ok.
At long last. Now lemme see what you guys have been up to...
Right, here's Gorgo transplanted from the ENworld site for the current JM's perusing pleasure.

BACKGROUND
- Born on Vanth to a Planetary Ape archeologist couple doing research in the border between the lands of the Ape Sultans and the Forbidden Waste.
- Parents went with half of the team to try and make their way back to God City after Vanth was cut off from galactic civlization. They never returned. Gorgo was a child of 6 at the time and was left behind with the rest of the team.
- Trained in the ways of the Psy Witch by an exiled member of the Funfair Nomads. His master died of old age last year.
*SIGH*
I must regretfully inform you all that my PC died on me again, this time permanently it seems, as several components (including the hard drive) that I cannot afford to replace anytime soon.
Someone up there hates me!
I'll post more about this in my blog...hmmm 30m to go on the netcafe.
Do with Gorgo what you wilt until I return.
Cheers.
Shit! Forget that last bit about the blog. Apparently my account has disappeared for some reason. I can't log in!
Damn ye, uncaring gods!
Is the STR score for armour the minimum STR you need to wear it, or an actual characteristic of the armour?
Quote from: Age of Fable;248914Is the STR score for armour the minimum STR you need to wear it, or an actual characteristic of the armour?
My take is that it's the minimum STR to wear the armor without an additional movement penalty of, say, 1" per point of difference between the PCs ability score and the minimum. So you could have STR 8 and still wear a bulletproof vest, but your movement would be 4 1/2" instead of 6 1/2".
Thanks. One more question: on page 26 (miscellaneous equipment), it has the equipment name, then the cost, then a heading I can't read, then something that looks like 'Army': what do the last 2 columns mean?
Lemon is the chance that any given item is shoddy, defective, malfunctions, etc. Army is the chance of finding the item in sufficient quantities to outfit a large number of people. Both can be ignored for chargen purposes.
Thanks again. I found the answer to my previous question actually - on p22: if you don't have at least the listed STR, you get -1/2" movement and -3% attack for each point short.

Knew it was in there somewhere, but EC is not, uh, especially well organized. Seems like S John Ross has been somewhat vocal on the importance of good of indexes too, so I imagine it was with some glee that he scattered various rules throughout the book...
