This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: walkerpI think my position has already been better stated by others here.  If player-player conflict is acceptable in the game, than success and experience at it should be rewarded.  If you're using the D&D system, you're kind of limited, because then you can only gain XP for taking out another character.  But if you get one over on your opponent, be it by beating him or her in combat, stealing something valuable from him or her, turning others against him or her, weakening their position in court, etc. you should get some reward.

I would really love to run a game where all the players represented some group, say rival drug gangs warring for tough or city-states on an island.  The players would have statted out characters, maybe several, like their leader, the top lieutenant, a tough soldier, a spy etc.  But they would also have overall stats and some abstract not too crunchy system to monitor the overall status of their kingdom.  And then let them really go at it. That would be awesome.

Hello, Reign.  I hope this system will fit the above bill.
You might do some digging for stuff about "interactive history".  I know at one point I found Amber rules for the players playing their own nations.  I also once found an interesting game which has since been sadly lost to /dev/null called Evolution, where the players each played a species on a planet, evolving from primitive stone age on into modern day.
Bedroom Wall Press - Games that make you feel like a kid again.

Arcana Rising - An Urban Fantasy Roleplaying Game, powered by Hulks and Horrors.
Hulks and Horrors - A Sci-Fi Roleplaying game of Exploration and Dungeon Adventure
Heaven\'s Shadow - A Roleplaying Game of Faith and Assassination

Oh, cool. Thanks, I'll dig into those. I just saw some Interactive History internet-based game, which looked interesting, though not competitive.
