This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Bobloblah;661310I seem to recall reading on Fabian's site (had no idea how old he is!) that he had some major frustration with TSR, as early on they kept the rights to his art. That eventually changed, if I'm not mistaken, and the Ravenloft stuff is probably all from after that.
.

This matches what I remember from the book content at the time the line was being produced. At some point they pretty much stopped doing Fabian art (which they had been reprinting in products) and switched to another artist who just couldn't capture the same vibe. Later when they released the van richten books in consolidated Monster Hunter Compendiums, they used non-fabian art (but all the text was the same). As far as I am concerned, Fabian's art, set the tone and helped define the ravenloft setting. It really shaped my reading of the material. Everything from the van richten guides to modules like Feast of Goblyns and the early boxed sets featured his art to great effect.

Agreed. His art is the Ravenloft setting to me. I was greatly disappointed to discover how old he is, as that meant there really was zero chance of seeing new work of his associated with D&D in the future.

Probably never happen, but I would love to see the three 3.5 Monster Hunter Guide's compiled (Van Richten's Guide to the Walking Dead, Shadow Fey and the Unpublished Guide to the Mists)...especially if they were in the same format as my existing Compendiums (which I'm SURE will never happen).

Seriously? You kind of jumped the gun there, didn't you? Even if a new one was definitely coming, or out, I wouldn't sell my old one.

I might if the production quality of the new one was excellent.  But only after it was out . . .

My old one is practically junk, but I wouldn't be able to see myself getting rid of it regardless.

Who in their right mind would sell a RC? That's bordering on sacrilegious.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

APN

I toyed with the idea of slicing one of my RCs up (the 'banana' incident copy...) to PDF it, but still haven't found it in me to do it. I have a few copies of the book, but the 'banana' copy was mint (I bought that from new and just used my beat up BECMI books instead) now it's falling to bits. Would be nice to buy a mint copy, or get a top notch professional quality PDF and print/bind it myself in leather (my RQII book turned out ok, but would stop small arms fire thanks to being printed on thick decent quality paper).

The BECMI (or BECM with Wrath of the Immortals) I'd buy (and am waiting for) in either pamphlet or all in one players and DMs tomes. Whatever, I have money waiting WOTC, as do thousands of fans. Those sets (well, Masters in decent condition and Immortals in any condition)  go for silly money on ebay, still, so maybe they are waiting till there's a lull in the cash flows to spring it on us. I'd say it was definitely coming, it's just the 'when' part we don't know :(

RPGPundit

They certainly are building up anticipation; I think its because they know its a big one...

I have two RCs and I would never dream of selling either one of them. Might be nostalgia talking though because those two books were my introduction to rpgs.

Teazia

I still have my legal RC pdf, but I bought it from Paizo, so it is no longer downloadable unfortunately.
