Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WOTC Cracking down on posts at ENWorld

From a twitter tweet of the ENWorld owner "Morrus" :

"Eeek. WotC has its lawyers send us letters about member posts now? I  miss The Rouse!"

WTF?  Hopefully he posts the letter.  How stupid is WOTC?  ENWorld is  like the last bastion of supporters outside their own message boards.   Maybe they want the entire message board content of the internet for  their own as well.

I would suspect, if I had to guess, that it has something to do with  people posting shit with proprietary WOTC stuff in it, like power cards  or stat blocks of something they think they own.

JRients:   "Joe the Lawyer is a known shit-stirrer. He stirred the shit. He got banned. Asking what he did to stir the shit introduces unnecessary complication to the scenario, therefore he was banned for stirring the shit."

Another PR debacle begins.  Cool, it was looking like a boring weekend.

At this juncture all they need to do is try to force Ryan Dancy to sign a legal form stating he can't use his own name on products he publishes and the circle will be complete.

edit: unless as has been pointed out that someone's just posting swaths of WotC IP, in which case I'll hold my opinion.

Is it discussed on ENWorld somewhere?

Internet rumour and speculation. What, exactly, is WotC objecting to? If it's copyrighted material, that is well within (No pun intended) their rights. If it's to stuff they don't actually own, then just ignore it unless it's an actual court order. Lawyer's letters have no legal force, aside from as evidence.
The main problem with government is the difficulty of pressing charges against its directors.

Given a choice of two out of three M&Ms, the human brain subconsciously tries to justify the two M&Ms chosen as being superior to the M&M not chosen.

If it does involve IP, it can't be helped.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

I want to see the letter so we can see how far-reaching in scope they are shooting for.  Assuming its some perceived Intellectual Property violation, their delusional megalomaniacal actions may affect blogs as well.

Agreed, except that the moderators over there are so good that I doubt they would let something like that slip by them.  I'd be shocked if that was it.  I bet it was more likely shit that you would normally have had to sign the GSL to produce and publish.

Am I a bad person for thinking it would actually be pretty funny if they did that to Sean K. Reynolds?:p
