world and first adventure idea for Zweihander

The Zweihander pdf is dropping at the end of the month. Is anyone else working up some world building ideas and a first adventure to bring together some random strangers into violent conflicts and a dark destiny?

I have three ideas all set in one world that could kick off a campaign. The parts of the world that matter at the start are an ancient island nation with an eldritch capitol port (think arcane London with Jack the Ripper and Hyde running around) and a young city growing too fast surrounded by wilderness (New York with Lovecraft horrors).

One starting adventure begins with the PCs on the Prodigious, a ship bound for the West and the great city of New Axbridge in the Six Outposts (the Western colonies of the empire of Rogale). The Prodigious sinks in the Talislantic Ocean, half eaten by a sea monster. The PCs are on the uneaten side with not enough lifeboats. Who gets in the boat? Do the PCs need to bring along the NPCs of the barber surgeon or the sailor if they lack those skills? Can they really leave behind the cabin boy if he takes up too much space? Are those really tentacle sharks in the water!? Can they find land and who or what is already there?

Or the PCs are in Axbridge in an old rundown neighborhood when plague hits. The mayor and council quarantine the neighborhood and chaos rules as death, gangs, and mayhem run the streets. And then the zombies follow. Who should the PCs ally with? Should they form their own gang? Can they find a way out and what happens if they do? Can the plague be cured?

Final idea is the PCs are approaching Roanoke, a small settlement far south of Axbridge. Their ship sinks in a terrible storm and the PCs and some NPCs make it to shore with some random assorted gear. Instead of finding Roanoke villagers waiting to help them, they find the village deserted with only the world Croatoan carved in a tree to show they were ever there. Do the PCs set up shop in a haunted village? Are the natives friendly (hah!)? What NPCs can be trusted and what NPCs will be trouble? What is a Croatoan? Hopefully it isn't a demonic plague.

Sounds really good!  The Roanoke setting has the potential to be a creepy, exciting game.

Thanks. I also like the Roanoke idea. Start small with just a few NPCs and the PCs. If everyone survives the winter guess who would get volunteered to head north to Axbridge for resupply.

No interest in Zweihander but these are fun setting/adventure ideas.

I'm a little confused by the little I know about this game; it sounds like it started as a WFRP 1st edition pastiche, but the current description sounds like it is more like a D&D compatible system. Which is it?

It's not only unD&D, it's its antithesis of our approach.

I understand the tone you are trying to evoke, but I still don't understand the answer to my question: to the rules of this game more closely resemble the various editions of WFRP (careers, percentile-scale stats, etc.) or some form of D&D (3d6 sorts of stats, hit points, etc), or neither?

Careers? Check. Percentile-based stats? Check. Injuries, Insanity & Mutations? Check. Small But Vicious Dogs? CHECK!

Not my kind of system, but a Roanoke campaign would be awesome. I've always been fascinated with that particular mystery. Kudos for exploring it!

Ah, I get it. So, this is functionally a WFRP retroclone sort of system, but re-cast to be suitable for a variety of settings (yes?)

Those sound like three good starting adventures.

One minor question/quibble. It sounds like Axbridge is a colony town in the new world, i.e. New York surrounded by wilderness. I've no clue as to your timeline, has the town been around long enough to have "an old rundown neighborhood"?

Tanner the co-author of Zweihander here! These settings are super good ideas, and we even cover Roanoke in one of our Campaign Seeds included with the game! Hope to hear more about your world once the game drops

How about hastily built, shoddily maintained, crawling with rats, and weathered by winter.
