This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Quartering Starting a New No Politics Gaming News Site

I was just made aware of a new crowdfunding campaign by Jeremy Hambly/The Quartering that is for a new gaming (both tabletop and video) news site with no politics by the name of "Exclusively Games."  The crowdfunding campaign only has one day remaining.  You can find it here.

I have a feeling we are going to get right wing hot takes instead of left wing. Like his video excusing the gamer who beat his wife on stream. Fuck that neck bearded loser.

How is that even going to work? Politics is bleeding into everything?

Possibly.

I don't know, but I'd like to see him try because I am quite tired of politics in all of my tabletop and video gaming news these days.

danskmacabre

I've registered there.
If it really does remain politics free and only about gaming, then it could be a decent place to discuss PC gaming and stuff like that.

Time will tell.

It even bleeds into my clothes washing! :( Oh, that was me mixing my whites & colors by accident. :o Nevermind, I wholly own my pinko undies now...

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

If by excusing you mean condemning, at least 5 times that I counted, and saying no one should hit anyone then sure.

The point of his video was to say that unfortunately he thinks this is just going to be reported as a toxic male gamer going off on his wife instead of what Hambley believes is the larger problem, streaming culture and video game addiction and how those can lead to this sort of situation.  He points out that the wife was also verbally abusive and allegedly threw things at the guy before he allegedly hit her but very few reports are mentioning that part.

Hambley says over and over that the abuse is wrong and nobody deserves it, the guy or his wife.

As for his website, it would be nice if he ends up creating the space he claims he wants.  Unfortunately I don't think he's going to be allowed to.  Sean Halliday (guy the outrage brigade got fired from GOG) was going to be a mod there but when word got out they smeared him online and in social media, started phoning his parents and friends, and all the usual life ruining tactics they are known for and forced him to back out.

He didn't do that.  He said no one should be hitting anyone.  Jeremy only said the woman was being violent first and both should had been charged.  Did you even watch and listen to the video?

I'm shocked to hear that Lurtch was misrepresenting the situation.

I watched the entire thing. He absolutely tried to both side it. Here is the issue with guys like Hambly: he's not very smart.

The guy who beat his wife is at fault. That's the end of the story. Watch the video and you'll see he had zero reason to beat his wife.

He did this "his wife did bad stuff too and that isn't being covered!"

You know how to defend gamers without both siding a guy who beat his wife? Talk about how there is no evidence that gamers are more violent than the general population and that we have evidence that gamers are less violent. Go after shitty hot takes and point out that one guy doing something awful has little to do with the population of gamers as a whole.

Here is how you don't condmen something like this:

He should have never hit her but she was antagonizing him and reportedly threw something at him. That is both siding it.

He should never had hit her. The end.

Want to talk about streaming and video game addiction? Great. Do a video on that. Don't both side it. Did you watch the video? He didn't do anything to deserve being hit. And watching Jeremy's clip he tries to make it look by lying and implying that she did.

Men should never hit women. We are much larger and much stronger.

Snowman0147

Bullshit!   I don't give a fuck how tiny a knife is it can still kill a man.  A woman can kill a man unless your too sexist realise that.  She chosen to be a violent shit of a human being and you want to skip past that.

Jeremy is the absolute objective right when he said both are shit. You just need to move on and realise women are human beings responsible for their choices and actions.

The fact that she instigated by throwing a box at her boyfriend?  She's as guilty as he is.  BOTH should be punished APPROPRIATELY.  I think the guy needs to be punished more for his reaction, but she's not innocent in this either.

And frankly, why does it matter?  That's not our business.  We don't really care about Pundit's politics or his home life, as we're here to discuss gaming, mainly D&D ones.

That does not excuse women's violence.

"Doublesiding" is only bad if you go too far into victim-blaming.
There is also matters like how actually damaging things are, like ... a box? What kind of box?
Cardboard(nowhere near as hard as a punch, perhaps less hard than a male slap if the male is stronger or more aggressive than average)?
Or something harder(which still must hit something vital in order to be more damaging than a punch)?

Yet still, it do seem like Jeremy tried to be fair, blaming the situation more than the individuals, and as such .... yeah, he might make it neutral.
His clientele, however, .... let's wish he get a crowd similar enough to this site, in that several people there can be unafraid to call out bullshit as they see it.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.
