Why don't you suggest the uninformed loved ones buy a gift card. This is assuming that your store being in a mall will accept the mall wide gift cards.

I really find the gift card concept cheap. I mean sure it's convenient and more than probably the person will have the use of it. Still in my view it's a bit like saying "I couldn't care less about what your hobbies are and what is your latest craze, why don't you take some money and just go buy yourself sth shiny ?"

One big caveat about gift cards are that they're contingent on the store involved remaining open until you use them.  In this economy, that might not be the best option to take, in particular with a small business.

That's just being difficult, you would get two gift cards for christmas

Thats the "catch-22" of it all. When the new version of our store was set up,....with a new computer and everything - somehow the Mall's gift cards never got programmed into our credit card reader.

 SO, as a result we have our own gift cards - but we can't redeem the Mall's gift cards. Add to that the Mall is in process of being sold from one group of owners to another - and their gift cards may or may not be valid in 6 months.
