This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). I'd say that this sounds like he's looking for IPs, to do with them in spirit of FFg most likely - keep publishing RPGs in limited format as "legacy work", use the IP to spin boardgames for real profit*.

*Though oddly enough, there aren't that many Warhammer board games by FFG so far. Then again, Invasion is definitely quite a cash cow.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Quote from: Mistwell;643285He should buy Palabra.  That's a cash cow just waiting for a bigger name to snatch it up.  It's like, Apples to Apples level sales, waiting to happen.

Love this game! I met the creators at a GTS many moons ago, and we bought a couple cases on the spot! I agree. This game could go viral with the right exposure.

(This will not happen, but would be hilarious if it did.)

No this would be the GREATEST thing EVER!  Then maybe D&D would get a good home.

I wonder if Mongoose is on the table.

Quote from: David Johansen;643366hmmm...I wonder if there's someone specific he's hoping will hear the call?

Ammarillo Design Bureau perhaps?  Looney Labs?  Palladium?
Over Kevin's dead body?

If KenHR is right about this being a more auspicous proposition for a working symbiosis than the AH/Chaosium deal was, due to SJG's market penetration and marketing skills - then I guess some smaller companies looking for just that market penetration might be tempted ... but I'd sooner expect Gary Gygax to be ressurrected than Palladium going for that route, though.

How about Hasbro off-loading WotC?
:D

I think it's a lot more likely that Hasbro will off-load D&D, than WotC.
MtG is still a good money-maker, I'll bet.

If Steve Jackson Games wanted to make more D&D board games like the Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon and Legend of Drizzt board games, I would be very okay with that.

Quote from: The Butcher;643338The "whole BGG threads arguing about whether you were secretly the Spawn of Satan" bit suggests that it's board (and likely non-collectible card) games he's looking for.

Though if he's got so much money that he doesn't know what to do with it, well, I concur with the general sentiment that a little GURPS would be nice.

I'd rather see him buy back the rights to The Fantasy Trip and turn that into a simpler alternative to GURPS.

TristramEvans

He should take GURPs Cabal and GURPS voodoo and create a new game just focused on the backstory of those products' shared setting.

David Johansen

I want them to change GURPS back into a simpler alternative to GURPS.  Not that I dislike 4e but I feel it desperately needs a proper introductory core book.  Lite is too compressed.

The only way this would make sense for RPGs would be if SJ planned to use whatever he bought for GURPS in some way.  I just can't imagine him putting GURPS in the back-burner in favor of some other game.

I hope not, but GURPS has been getting the red headed stepchild treatment for a while now :(

He should buy out Dark City Games, who put out a Fantasy Trip clone.

It's funny, I love their stuff (and The Fantasy Trip) but absolutely hate Gurps. It's like he decided to wanted to try to emulate the complexity of Champions/Hero. (I blame Autoduel Champions for that)

Spinachcat

Looney Labs would be a good choice. Maybe Z-Man Games. He will look for stuff with the profitability of Munchkin - cheap cards, low art cost, high profit margin in a box.

That sounds like Dominion, but I think the artwork is a bit pricey for Steve Jackson's tastes.
