This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Star Wars again] Kinda Ironic

Lucas is inconsistent as an idiot. Sure, he gave us Jar Jar, Ewoks and Megachlorines, but he also gave us Han Solo (shooting first and all), Lightsabers and Boba Fet.

Electro: I think the difference between 'idiot lucas' and 'non idiot lucas' is how much he had to listen to collaborators and other people in the creative process.

Early Star Wars with not much money or directorial power to back his plays? Lots of collaborations and lots of neat stuff (han solo shooting first, light sabers, Boba Fett)

later Star wars with oodles of money and power so no collaborators? Jar Jar, Han shoots last, Midichloreans...

Think about it.  The longer Star Wars made money, the Stupider Lucas got.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

I actually think it has more to do with age. A young Lucas didn't care about Han shooting first because its cool. An older Lucas is responsible for:

1. Greedo shooting first, to protect his kids from a hero shooting first.
2. Young Anaki and Jar Jar Biggs, only a father could imagine that those two things would appeal to a young audience.
3. The move away from pulp to a more serious semi-historical tone. Pulp for adults is hard to maintain and Lucas' aged years looked for more complexity where it wasn't needed.

Sosthenes

Lucas never was much for a serious tone. I'd say that lots of the good things in ANH probably were sheer coincidence, or mostly lots of brilliant minds working on the same movie. Although you really have to give Lucas credit for the editing...

He never was satisfied with the mood of TESB. And accordingly, it's one of the best movies (I generally prefer the sheer imagination of the first movie, though). He once again got his will with ROTJ. Yup-yup-yup. A vision of things to come...

But at least he still got the most amazing creative department.

That was more what I was thinking too.

Still, even with age, he can come up with some decent stuff -- dispite the flaws, Eps 1-3 had some gems.

True, I am a fan of the first trilogy despite its flaws.
