This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

SJG's latest project. This one should not surprise anyone.

And he says that of any RPG, this is the one he most wished he designed.

You're not telling us anything that we don't know, haha.

Is it wrong that when I read the header I read it as...

"SJW's latest project.  This one should not surprise anyone."

Pretty sure the Woke are striving for a Live Action version... not a LARP, just live action.

Played Munchkin once and it bored the hell out of me.   So passing on this is easy.

Yes, I agree with the SJG and SJW comment.

I've heard people jokingly call the company SJW Games in the past year.

One thing I find tedious with the new versions of paranoia (and speculative fiction in general) is a refusal to update the ideologies.

From the 40's to now the Dystopian futures are always a reflection of the worry of Fascism taking over, or the general crushing weight of Right Wing thinking creating a police state.

Now we're living in the beginning of a real life dystopian police state, but based on Marxism (or it's mutated progeny) and modern speculative fiction is all...a reflection of the worry of Fascism taking over, or the general crushing weight of Right Wing thinking creating a police state.

I'm a middle aged guy with a lot of free time, looking for similar, to form a group for regular gaming. You should be chill, non-woke, and have time on your hands.

They could do a 2023 edition.  Substitute the word "antifa" for "troubleshooter" and you're halfway there

This looks like the gaming equivalent of trying to make a new drink by mixing milk and lemon juice.

Seriously, what's the game?  Blasting every Alpha Complex resident you find to collect their gear while trying to outrun the watchful eye of Friend Computer?

Terrible idea, overwhelming majority of ttrpg players can't pass Voight-Kampff test.

This isn't even an RPG (so not on topic) and it isn't even detectably woke.
Let's not signal boost SJG just because they've gone wokeish.

I thought Paranoia features a Computer that opposes Communists?

Yeah, but it's generally played as cold war... paranoia. By communists, The Computer means anyone who causes trouble for The Computer and The System.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Munchkin is a card game with RPG elements, so probably off-topic. I will say I like the game quite a bit and own a lot of the sets; I backed the Kickstarter for the Batman set a while back, too. I doubt I will ever buy another thing from SJGs, though, much less support one of their KS...and this is after doing Triplanetary, The Fantasy Trip, that giant set of boxed games ones, Dungeon Fantasy, Munchkin...just committing fucking corporate suicide.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

#Paranoia Munchkin makes perfect sense. Almost tailor made for it really. So insta buy for me.

On the one hand they do, but things like 'terrorists' didn't have the same thematic resonance.

On the other hand they don't need to, as authoritarian regimes are all the same. Hunting down communists in a communist society is one of the core ironies, but nothing much would change if that was changed to fascists. It is based on 1984 after all.

I know for a fact however the designers are concerned about folks engaging in the 'wrong' sort of parody/satire, which is why there's still not a community content program for it. And there are certainly political elements they're unwilling to address at all. It's also hard to move on from the superficial expectations the line has established, which too often leads to discussions breaking down into the equivalent of Monty Python quotes.

Ultimately the particular ideologies don't matter, and folks are likely to see the ones they expect to anyway.

Oy Vey!

'Fascism' was NEVER a 'right wing' thing.

Facism at its roots is still a'left-wing' phenomena - it is a collectivist way of running things - that makes it Left Wing.

Rumour Control: This is completely untrue. The reason there is no community content programme for Paranoia is that there is no ready benefit due to the nature of the game.
